    2025 AFLW season

The fixture for the 2025 AFLW season has been released. The fixture has 12 rounds.

The fixture divides the teams into three groups of six for determining matchups. This is similar to the men's fixture, except this determines the AFLW teams that are not played instead of the teams that are played twice.

Sydney finished in the bottom six last season, so the Swans have an easier fixture this year. The teams that Sydney do not play this season are Brisbane (Group 1), Hawthorn (1), Port Adelaide (1), St Kilda (2) and Western Bulldogs (2). Sydney plays all five of the other bottom six teams from last season.

AFLW player profiles have been updated on the Sydney Swans website.

Sydney Swans women's team played a practice match against Brisbane at the weekend. They lost by 13 points, 5.6 (36) to 7.7 (49). Link to AFL blog.

Last year, the Swans played Brisbane and were smashed, 11.12 (78) to 1.4 (10); the Lions went on to lose the Grand Final.

This suggests that the Swans have improved significantly from last year.

The AFLW season starts next weekend. Sydney's women's team will play Richmond at North Sydney Oval. This oval has a unique home ground advantage amongst AFLW venues: a large tree overhanging the playing surface at the northern end.

Last year, Richmond defeated Sydney 10.8 (68) to 3.4 (22). Richmond finished seventh.

This match should provide some indication of any improvement for the Swans. The practice match against Brisbane (who made last year's Grand Final) was a competitive 13-point loss that was far closer than the 68-point loss Sydney had against Brisbane last year.

This should be a good game. Go Swans.

Looking forward to seeing the team play on Friday and in the season to come - with an easier draw, and hopefully a more luck with injuries, the ladies can make a rapid ascent up the ladder.

And seriously - Zippy Fish has what is perhaps the best name in footy!

Can't wait to see how she goes at the top level - a lot of keen watchers of underage footy suggest she has all the hallmarks to become a superstar. With a memorable name like that, I have no doubt she will fulfil her potential. Will be wonderful to see Molloy back as well.

                Bring it on!

In 2 days time the Swans Women play Tigers at North Sydney oval. It is a very cute ground, a great surface, maybe a little too lush but very velvet like. I am glad our women are playing their games at North Sydney and Henson Park. The best two grounds in Sydney. Henson is our REAL Home ground. Far better surface than the SCG. what I hate is how they treat the women's league. The Women should play a whole season not a half season. At least play every side once.

Good game so far. I only have the radio coverage but that's good enough.

Late in the third quarter the Swans are leading Richmond by 21 points, 6 goals 9 to 3 goals 6.

Three-quarter time score is 7 goals 9 to 3 goals 6, with Cooper kicking a goal after the 3/4 time siren.

                        Molloy has 3 goals.

Leading possession getters so far: Gardiner and Fish have 19 possessions each, and Hurley and Ham have 14. For Richmond, Conti has 22 and McKenzie has 14.

We faded a bit in the last quarter, but there was a lot to like about tonight. Great to see Molloy and Morphett back doing their thing, and if anyone had any doubts about the potential of Zippy Fish, didn't take long for her to show her stuff - 25 odd disposals and 500 metres gained. Going to be a lot of fun watching her play - but great start to the season from the team, a lot to like and build on for the season to come.

Oh and that Hamilton goal withe the tripple shimmy was an awesome goal - great play!

Very enjoyable watch - excellent performance from the Swans. Obviously the stars performed well, but I was really impressed by some of the lesser lights - Mini Cooper played her best game, and Van Loon was really solid (which will dull the pain of losing Ella Heads). And as MCS said, Fish was amazing.

Sydney ended up winning by 20 points. This is a big improvement on last season's game where Richmond won by 46 points.

Match report: Four-goal Molloy and Zippy Swans too good for Tigers

I saw someone posting on the match thread on Reddit that they tried to buy a Zippy Fish button and they were sold out already.
