No one else watching? It's magnificent!
AFLW 2025 Rnd 2 v. Gold Coast

I can't watch it, it's only on pay TV. I have the WARF radio coverage on.
Molly has five goals in the first half. FIVE. Her score of 5 goals 3 behinds is more than the Swans scored in six full games last year. It's good to have her back.

HT: 1.1 v 8.8 - Swans are dominant all over the field. Molloy has kicked 5.3 already and Gardiner & Ham both have 20 disposals, but really we are beating them in every position. Last time I saw a performance this good was the mens team in the first half of last year.
Oh, and Fish continuing with her form from last week - delicious!Comment

I just checked the AFLW single game goals record. It seems to be 7 by Brooke Lochland back in 2018. Could easily be broken today.Comment

Yes, it already seems that Fish is a pick 5 well spent. I've also been impressed with some of the other newcomers. Van Loon is having a good game in defence. Martin looks like she's going to be a strong contributor in the forward line. Moloney and Pullar are doing well.

Brilliant start to the season by the team! Chloe Molloy is a deadset superstar, and Zippy Fish is already on her way to being one!Comment

While I suspect that the Suns have issues, that was a very impressive team performance. I loved the way that they constantly denied the Suns any time and space. I also loved how willing the side was to run hard and create space when we had the ball. I also think that every player did well.
But of course, there was some obvious stand outs. We really missed Molloy last season, when we worked hard to get the ball forward, but often didn't capitalise. Now, we can just get the ball in her general direction and chances are that the opposition will be punished. At the other end, I was very impressed by Fish. Seems to read the game very well, is lightning quick and will launch many, many rebound chains in the future.
Our onballers were very good. Gardiner continued her ball magnet ways. Ham showed plenty of dash and strength when in the middle, and was dangerous when she went forward. Kennedy monstered the opposition mids at times and seems to have developed a bit more offensive skills. Morphett seemed to get better as the game went on. Hurley was classy.
Possibly should stop before I name every player, but I'll just add that I thought all the new players showed that they can make a contribution. Looking forward to seeing the side goes against some of the stronger teams.Last edited by dejavoodoo44; 24 August 2025, 09:05 AM.Comment

Round 3 Geelong (Kardinia Park). They defeated us by 3 points last year. This should be an interesting test.
Round 4 Fremantle (Henson Park). Previous match was in 2023 when Sydney won by 22 points.
Round 5 Collingwood (Victoria Park). We've beaten them twice in two years by about three goals each time.
Round 6 GWS Giants (Henson Park). Sydney has recent form over the Giants, winning the last two by under a goal. I suspect it won't be close this time.
Round 7 Adelaide (Unley Oval, Adelaide). Adelaide has been a difficult opponent, winning by 67 points in a final in 2023. A good test.
Round 8 North Melbourne (Launceston). The Roos last lost a game in 2023. They beat us by 10 goals last year. This is going to be a difficult game for obvious reasons. Knock them off though ... ?
Round 9 Carlton (Henson Park). Carlton won by 5 points last year. Can we make amends?
Round 10 Melbourne (Casey Fields). Melbourne look brutal so far this year. We've never played them before.
Round 11 West Coast (Henson Park). Last year's game produced a 46-point win. Can we do it again?
Round 12 Essendon (Coffs Harbour). The two games we've played against Essendon were a 3-point loss in 2024 and a 4-point loss in 2022. Can we win this time?
So perhaps 6 winnable games, two that could go either way (Adelaide and Geelong), and two that will be hard to win. If we can end with nine wins we are going well this year."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Zippy Fish has earned a rising star nomination. Looks a future star to me.
