    AFLW 2025 Round 6 v GWS Giants

Sydney's game this week is at home against the GWS Giants. Last round, GWS had their first win and Sydney the first loss. GWS defeated the Bulldogs, whose only win has been against the winless Tigers, suggesting the bottom teams have established a pecking order.

    Teams for both sides:

Sydney: Ruby Sargent-Wilson, Caitlin Reid, Rebecca Privitelli and Sarah Steele-Park come in to the squad with Julie O'Sullivan having an ACL injury and being out for the rest of the season.

GWS Giants: Claire Ransom, Fleur Davies and Aliesha Newman named in the extended squad with no omissions.

I made sure to get the round number correct this time, after my error last week apparently put the team off so much they lost to the Wobbles.

Ruby Sargent-Wilson for O'Sullivan is the only change.
So they are being conservative with Hurley which is good, but it looked like Lexi Hamilton had a broken rib when she came off... I guess not!

To put the Collingwood loss into perspective, they just lost to Hawthorn, but only by nine points. They are a better team than their ladder position suggests.

Our win against Geelong looks decent in hindsight. Geelong have won their last three.

The Giants are not as strong as these teams, but I would not discount any opponent. The competition is starting to even up.

North Melbourne is the exception. They have been strong in every season they have played. Since admission in 2019, their home and away records have been: 5-2, 5-1, 6-3, 7-3, 6-3-1, 7-3 and 10-0-1. 46 wins, 15 losses and 2 draws for a winning percentage of about 75%. We play them in two weeks.

It is disappointing that the match will have no free to air coverage of any kind in Victoria, not even a radio stream. It's on free to air TV in NSW, though.

Yes, infuriating. No radio stream in Queensland, but we do have a choice of three different radio streams for the Bulldogs v Lions match.

I'm fortunate to have Kayo. Competitive match so far, GWS certainly are playing confidently, in truth we are lucky to be in the lead at QT (2.2 v 2.1). Looks like a beautiful day - not so in Melbourne.
GWS must wonder why they got rid of Grierson.

              HT: 5.4 v 4.3
Another very competitive quarter, just a five minute burst to us that allowed us to pull clear. Kennedy has been fantastic and Fish is so classy.

                Jeez, this is going to be a nail-biter 3QT: 5.5 v 6.5
Hopefully we can use the breeze in the last quarter, GWS were able to kick long and over the back to generate scores. Garnett had been kept quiet by Hausegger, but just needed a sniff to put them in the lead.

not sure who the defensive coach is they must all be forward coaches. No pressure on the ball, is play on at all times and running into trouble. they will be licky to win this one,

                    Damn FT: 6.6 v 7.7
With our next 4 (Ade, NM, Carl, Mel) we could be out of finals contention. Just not enough composure, we score with quick movement & chaos but haven't really got a plan B. And if there is a turnover we can be caught out of position.
                    FWIW 3 votes - Kennedy; 2 - Morphett; 1 - Hausegger or maybe Fish

wjhat do supporters feel about broadcasters using the word Swanees when callin swans games, A female swan is a pens in fact the word swanee does not mean Swan. Its so annoying. The loss today did not surprise me as I said earlier, the fefensive is pathetic, much like the mens teams. Defence is not a word used in sydney teams.
