    Round 7 vs Adelaide

After two losses in a row in games the Swans really should have won, Sydney's women go to Adelaide to take on the Crows.

    Sydney's previous results against Adelaide:
    2023: Adelaide 12.10 (82) defeated Sydney 2.3 (15) Semi final

    Team changes:

    ADELAIDE

    In: G.Kelly
    Out: B.Smith (omitted)

    SYDNEY

    In: R.Privitelli, C.Reid, S.Steele-Park
Out: A.Morphett (calf), R.Sargent-Wilson (injured), A.Van Loon (omitted)

Three team changes, including two forced changes due to injury.

Adelaide are ahead of Sydney by a percentage margin of 0.2, which is less than one point. On recent form, the gap between the teams is significantly larger. Adelaide has defeated Hawthorn in the past month, with their only loss in the past 5 weeks being a 3-point loss to Brisbane.

I've been really impressed by our performance so far against a quality side in Adelaide, but some of the umpiring is amateur.

A low scoring loss, but possibly our best performance of the year. If we can maintain this level for the rest of the year we should be playing finals.
3 Votes - Gardiner, relentlessly competitive over 4 quarters
2 - Ham, was exceptional when powering through the middle
      1 - Fish, always composed

I’m usually loathe to be that guy, but have to agree the umpiring was a little confusing for a fair chunk of the game.

A pretty encouraging performance overall against a strong side. I thought we looked much better structurally with Privitelli up forward and McEvoy in the backline.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Sadly poor umpiring is par for the course in the AFLW. I don't think some of their interpretations (like the HTB rule) help either, making it is even more subjective than the AFLM competition.

I thought it was our best performance of the season, away to a very good side, and without a couple of good players. Agree we looked a lot better structurally today. Our biggest challenge continues to be our skills under pressure - there is no doubt we are improving in that regard, but we still make foo fumbles that are costly, especially in close.

good effort agaist crows but we have to improve our disposal, too many times we missed OUR players and instead turned it over. Molloy is wasted at ff , needs to be in game more unless she is still not fully ready after her kneww op. Also agress re umpires pathetic and mainly one way to the crows. Seems like it happens all the time to our girls we get picged the oppostion gets away with exactly the same thing. Umpiring has been against the swans all year , same as in our mens team. seem likes there may be som sort of conspirasy going on

It was disappointing not to get the win, but Adelaide are a good team that has won premierships. Last time Sydney played Adelaide was a big loss in a final so this shows clear improvement.

Next weekend's game is as tough as they come: an away game against North Melbourne, who last lost a game in 2023.

I agree there were too many turnovers and fumbles by the Swans when pressured. We brought a lot of pressure ourselves but the crows were just a little bit more composed which was enough for them in the end. I looked up the stats and our squad on the day has played 688 games, Adelaide has played 1081. Hopefully once we have a couple more season under our belt we will be able to cope with pressure better.
Unfortunately North Melbourne are even more experienced (1216 games).
And just to make it tougher, they played at home on Friday while we will only have 6 days for a second away game.
