If you are interested in the fledgling women's league, and didn't see tonight's ABC 'Australian Story' program, then I highly recommend it. It traces the background of the businesswoman Susan Alberti, who is a driver and significant financial supporter of the new league, and Moana Hope who has been chosen to be a Collingwood marquee player. Both of them are truly inspirational women.
I watched the AFL women's match tonight, won by the Bulldogs over Melbourne 14.6 (90) to 7.9 (51). It was a hugely entertaining & physical match, showing some terrific skills, toughness and courage. Moana Hope for the Dogs kicked 6 goals. And Tayla Harris for Melbourne took some fabulous marks. I was impressed by the players' game awareness, they've had some serious coaching input.
I loved it - wish the Swans were fielding a team next year!
There were 6365 people at the Whitten Oval which is a big endorsement for the women's game. Coverage by Channel 7 was excellent. So well done to all involved.
It was excellent. There was a point early in the third quarter where things looked like were unravelling, but they tightened up and finished with all the intensity you'd expect from the men. Agree with you Meg about Hope and Harris - two guns to watch.
I think the salient point for me is that this game was played well outside the regular season, before the new league has even begun. Wind the clock forwards three or four years and I think you can expect a whole new level of play from what we witnessed Saturday.
Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun. Blessedare the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.
