I thought Brennan went across to Perth with the squad yet he was mentioned as one of the best on ground. Hmm.

Would be strange to bring more than one player over to Perth (unless there are multiple injury concerns). And Bird didn't play in Canberra, so I presume he got the free holiday. (Not that going to Canberra in the middle of winter isn't an exciting holiday, o' course.)

Faulks yet again up among the best players. I remember at the time of his drafting, draft pundits were somewhat surprised that he went at all (let alone as high as he did) and thought he hadn't impressed as strongly as many others. Could the Swans have turned another sow's ear into a silk purse?

Of course, on occasion, the 'official' best players aren't worth a pinch of nothin' (except so far as they give an insight into the club's thinking). I'll be interested to hear from any eye-witnesses as to Davis and Fosdike's games.

Swans had a very strong squad going into this game (notwithstanding the absence of Bird). Seeing that the rules for the finals are even more anti-Swans than the minor round, a four-peat of flags seems unlikely.

It's only because Roos stated earlier in the week that he would be taking 25 players over for the trip, that made me question it.

I suspect they took 25 over and flew a either one or two back.

Smith and Bird didn't play and they were the 2 along with Brennan who flew over to Perth as emergencies.

Bird was that teenager singing the song on TV with the team.

                      Next week's game against Ainslie:

                      - On the official website, it says 1pm start.
                      - On sportingpulse, it says 3.50pm start.

Anyone know which is correct, and if it's the earlier one, why?

Official match report now up. Presuming Nick Smith got a holiday to the west, he also flew back.

The official report doesn't tell us much that the best players didn't, apart from confirming that us coming back to the pack and not conceding scores like 2.2 for the match any more, is good news for our budding defenders. Nothing at all about Davis, Fosdike and Schmidt apart from the fact that they showed up and some of them kicked goals. BBBH in and no Goodes out means any of those 3 have little hope that they might push into the 22 this week anyways.

In a rare event (for the ultra-nerds like myself who care), all 47 Swans players are present and accounted for: 22 playing in Perth + Bird watching + 17 playing in Canberra + 6 on the injury list + Crouch the mystery Swan who doesn't appear on the injured list.

And the real happy news for The Future: Vespa is back! Kind of. Gone from the ominous-looking 'indefinite' on the injury list, back to 2 weeks. DOK sadly still indefinite. If there are injuries, Vespa would be my smoky to debut late this year.

ORB was down at the best kept secret on the south coast, strolling on the beach, looking after his retirement home, playing with his train set and going nutso over the poor tele reception when the Swans are playing - as he does most away weeks. Only once or twice a year do the planets align and I can get to Canberra for an away game, the Ainslie match was just that.

There are several RWO'ers who are Canberra based. AFAIK, none of them has ever put their hands up to do a regular away game report. A great pity, as we would all appreciate that very much.
