Didnt see this thread when I posted so have deleted mine.

I would love to see Everett in the red and white and I was dissappointed that he didnt come to us instead of Hawthorn.

A BIG NO if we have to trade for him.

Too risky. Getting Everitt means we have no currency left for a key defender. An injury to leo, lrt or bolton would mean ziltch chance for back to back, even with Everitt firing.

And where would an injury to Jolly leave us in the ruck and midfield?

Precisely it is my point. Injuries to any of a number of our players would mean no chance for the flag (Jolly is one of them, Leo CBolton and LRT are others).

I dont see how we could trade to cover to all of those areas in one go. Our depth for 2006 wont be as good as 2005 and thus we will be more vulnerable to injuries.

I dont think trading for established players would cover all those problems. Cant see how we could get a ruckmand and a key defender (of decent quality) in a single trade period (without giving up a fair bit).

The worst would be for us to go all out to get it back-to-back and then fail. If we fail (due to some injuries), we would wander in the wilderness for some time we think. All the momentum that this flag gives, will be wasted. And that is not good for the club future.

We would be much better to use this opportunity to renew the list. Getting some long term talents in there which we could be a dynasty around. It might mean we are going to lose in the short term. But as long as we stay competitive, the momentum with this flag would mean we should be able to progress (with the market) for some time more that we could usually afford.

Maybe it isn't that we need to go all out for back to back. If we did get Spider what would be giving up? A draft pick and a fringe player? We've been developing the young'uns for a while now and we still have some of that dry powder sitting in the shed. Another champ like Spider would go down a treat.

No-one's mentioned Doyle in their figurings. He was going very well before injury and would be a worthy backup to Jolly who I think is ready for first ruck. Then we've got Hall, Goodes and Vogels all over the park to help out.

I can't put my finger on it but I don't feel right about taking Spider especially when I'd hate to see us trade any of our contributing youngsters.

From the Hawks supporters POV, they want LRT!!

According to Southern Cross News the Sydney Swans are looking around for a replacement for Ball and will be having discussions with Spider. I have mixed feelings about this. I know some people do not place a great emphasis on ruck play in the modern game (I disagree as Everitt has been a...

Say NO to Everitt. He's too old and has behaved like too much of a ********head in the past (although I did like his support of Bazza at the Brownlow). Roos says there's no place for guys like that at the club.
Remember the last Hawthorn 'star' we recruited, Dermott Brereton? He gave us no value at all, spent most of the season either out injured or reported, then went to Collingwood. Waste of time and effort. We need to recruit people who want to play for the Bloods, not people who are just in it for the $$. It's a very specific mindset among the Swans players and those who don't fit it won't work.

                      What about Waite from Carlton?

What did you pay for Everitt? Pick 6 and pick 22 in a poor draft.
Three years on and they want a first round pick + a premiership player for the same guy?

Everitt would last another two seasons at best. I think the first three seasons = pick 6, the last two = pick 22. That is about right price I think. I wouldn't pay that for him though unless Roos decides to go all out for a back-to-back.
