Nearly missed that one, must be getting tired.

I'm over the whole Robert Walls thing now - we proved him wrong, we could win a grand final with our "ugly" playing style. Anyone notice that the 8.10 (58) we scored in the grand final was the same as our score in that game against St. Kilda?

        Well said, Ruda.

RL is as valid a code as Aussie Football is. Whilst I don't follow it with 1/10 the passion I have for AFL, that's not to say I dislike the sport. I really thought it to be the year of both red and white teams, but I'll take the Dragons being denied a shot at the flag anyday over the Swannies losing out.

Anyway, the GM of the Melbourne Storm (who looked remarkably like Mark Williams of Port Adelaide) spoke at the Football Studies conference at Windy Hill last week. What he had to say about League in Victoria was very interesting. They believe they occupy a niche market and are pushing it accordingly: they are not marketing League as an alternative to AFL, and they would not stand a chance in Victoria if they did. The bottom line is that there's room to support both your traditional AFL team as well as the Melbourne Storm/other NRL club. People should be free to do so. Simple. Liking League doesn't render you incapable of liking Aussie Football and vv.

My Dad played League, my bro Union, and I am mad on AFL. Whilst I have encountered some resistance to AFL in my household, it's not so bad. Rugby wins out collectively, though there's always room for the other codes. It makes life interesting. Dad loved Balmain, disliked Wests, so the merger was tough for him, but he still supported them. So this weekend I shall be supporting the Tigers for blood is thicker than the state border.

Plus, if you really want to know, they have not won the premiership in 36 years. 36 and 36 gives you....

        72. Here endeth the lesson. Up the Tigers!

I watched some RL this morning on Foxtel and it just seems like a bunch of Gehrigs running into each other at medium pace followed by a Dunkleyesque kick.

There probably is room for both codes, especially in Sydney with nearly 5 million people here, but watching the NRL grand final on and off, it's kind of hard to get excited about after last week!

Tigers just scored a terrific try a few minutes ago, though! Breathed some life into the game.

A bunch of Gehrigs running into each other? Now that's ugly football!!

You gotta love the NRL types outraged over the fact the Swans got a CBD parade and the Tigers have been denied one.

If the Tigers want a parade they can have one in Balmain or Campbelltown. As much as the Telegraph tries to spin it, they do not represent all of Sydney.

NRL premiers have never received CBD parades, but the league jealousy has really reared its ugly head in the past week as they try to protect their code against the soaring popularity of the Bloods.

The expletive-laden post match interviews by Tigers players have also elevated the Swans to near God-like status in the eyes of many.

I have been Reg Chesterton's (League jouno) biggest critic but he actually speaks some sense for a change in today's Tele.

They don't get one? I heard Clover promise they would.

Maybe she can combine it with Mardi Gras?

Yeah. The new marketting buzz word in NRL circles is "Tribalism".
Tribalism may sound cool, but its merely a term for small pockets of support. (Similar to "Boutique" is often used to describe their stadiums, which really means "small").

Now they want to throw Tribalism away to try and emulate the swans which have broad support across the city.

                      Fools.

Perhaps NRL should adopt the Grand Final parade.
A wonderful tradition. I love that the the people of Melbourne, irrespective of the team they support, show up and cheer the two grand finalists.
