If we are looking to improve our list then we are still holding the trump card. We could always opt out if no fair deal is possible.

For the Hawks, Everitt's staying is worse off than he is traded.

The Swans wouldn't be sailing as close as they are to tampering with another club's list (which is what we've effectively done; offered a contracted player a better deal so he'll ask for a trade) if they weren't very keen to get him.

I dont think theres any question Hawthorn won't take O'Keefe if offered.

Will the addition of Everitt for the next 2 or 3 years counter the loss of O'Keefe and allow us to continue to challenge for a flag? I think O'Keefe is a vital cog we cant afford to lose and that Everitt won't get us another flag without O'Keefe there as well.

I'd give any of our midfielders, apart from Kirk, to Hawthorn before I'd consider O'Keefe, but I know thats highly unlikely. I

No, not O'Keefe - he's too important to the forward line structure even when not kicking goals. As long as he keeps his work rate up he is a required player. Spida may boost our chances of going back-to-back, but if we trade O'Keefe this will lessen our chances IMO.

Totally agree. Taking RoK out, we have no second target on route to goal. Would make it so much easier for the the defence to negate.

Honestly though, I'd rather keep the current team in tact and have Roos play Goodes in the ruck again, with Jolly to take the centre bounce. Get Goodes back in 2003 form and we'll romp it in with back to back flags!

I agree that Ryan is too important to trade. The depth of our forward line was one of the key reasons we won a flag. Why give that up for a has-been?

Besides, what should happen if we traded Ryan, then lost Mickey or Nick Davis to injury? We'd be every bit as stuffed as if we lost Doyle or Jolly to injury now.

Bit harsh to call Spida a has-been. He's still playing very good footy (the umps think so too) and will be a very welcome tall-target in the forward line. His tap work may allow us to play a more attacking brand of footy from the stoppages too.

A: A dodgy one.

Still, Everitt's a very good player. But we do have a decent first ruckman, and a handy second if he's a bit luckier next season. And then there's Goodes. We don't need a marquee ruckman as much as some clubs.

So O'Keefe should be off the menu. We found, trained and persisted with him. Now he's paying off we'd be fools to let him go now. How many tireless, roaming, strong-marking half-forwards are up for grabs, compared to ruckmen?

I don't favour trading O'Keefe. In fact, I would turn down a straight swap, Everitt for O'Keefe.

How do you work that out? We are involved in more stopages than any team in the comp therefore rely much more heavily on ruckmen than other teams.
