That's taking it to the other extreme. We can keep an eye out for our future while at the same time focussing on how we can best win back to back next year. I have much faith in our coach and our recruiting department to do the right thing.

Davis was pick 19 - I think. Which I think was early second round.

True, I just think that four years from now is when we will be hit hardest by retirements etc. Hopefully, we will have enough young talent still coming through to stay competative. Look at Adelaide for example last year they were bagged for topping up in order to win a premiership for too long and many people predicted they would spend a long time rebuilding before becoming a force again.

It's conclusive. Trading away first round picks can't win flags.... oops... wait a minute...
Like I said before in another thread, none of those were anywhere near 32 when we gave up a first round draft pick for.

Everitt is not worth a 1st round draft pick.
Everitt will not guarantee us a 2nd flag.

I forgot Fossie, Crouch and Jolly (I did it very quickly).

Davis was traded for pick 23, so he's a second round draft pick.

The rest of the 22 (please correct any that are wrong):
              Mathews - zone selection
              O'Keefe - pick 56
              C. Bolton - pick 6, PSD
              Schneider - pick 60
              Kennelly - international rookie
              O'Loughlin - pick 40
              Ablett - pick 24
              Barry - zone selection
              Dempster - father/son - pick 37 or thereabouts.
              Roberts-Thomson - priority selection, pick 29
              Kirk - rookie list
              Buchanan - pick 52
              Goodes - pick 37
              Bevan - rookie list

We were nowhere near winning a flag when we picked up Ball, Williams or Hall. We thought we were with Hall, though.

We are expected to finish top four again next year. We have one change from our premiership winning side - we've lost a ruckman. Everitt is a direct replacement. He increases our chance of winning another flag (nothing EVER guarantees a flag). The draft is shallow and our pick is garbage. What is your issue here?

                    Off topic, but....

7 of our best 22 came outside the draft (zones, international, rookie). Thats how you build a list without bottoming out.

I forgot Crouch also, realise we traded a round 2 for Nicky D, just thought he was originally a round 1. Seems he went early 2 (19) tho.

Picks can be deceiving, could never believe how high Warfe went !

I agree, pick 19 in an average draft is nothing to get excited about but an AA ruckman who we should at least get 2 years out of is.

That was my point. We can afford to top up now in order to challenge for another flag and still be confident that we will have the talent to remain a force afterwards.

Because Everitt is old. He's had his share of injuries, and I think AT BEST, he could give us one more good season before he winds down. At worst, he'll break down, and derail our "culture".
If the deal is 1st round pick + Saddo. I'd keep Saddo and Doyle.
If its Saddo + 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, then worth the risk.

Just my humble opinion. Who's to say Doyle cant put in a full year as 2nd ruck.
