    I can't remember what Hawthorn traded to get Spida - but already the price seems to be too high - we should probably move on.

    Is a 31 YO worth that much?

    Is it worth risking the fabric of the club (trading players), I doubt it
    When Everitt was traded to Hawthorn, St Kilda received national draft selections six and 22 in exchange. Sydney's earliest pick in November's national draft is the 19th pick overall.
    I agree, while he would be good for us, his age is against him. I mean Ball is 32, and just retired.

    Everitt is only 18 months younger than Ball, and we are offering him a three year deal!??!?

      Reading the papers Dylan Mclaren is in the picture - much more sensible Brisbane Seem to have a surfeit of ruck types.

      Plus I always think Hawthorn seem to suffer from small man syndrome as a football club, and are very eratic. They are liable to do all kinds of weird things (for example ask for way over the odds for a 31 yo).

      Picks 6 & 22 were when he had many more years left.

      Mclaren looks interesting - he was 16th for hit-outs, and should have plenty in him

        "While it is common knowledge that Everitt and Clarkson don't see eye-to-eye, the Hawks would only entertain a deal if the Swans could find them a worthy ruck replacement which is highly unlikely."

        Step up Stephen Doyle, you are now a Hawk. *sigh.

        If this is the case, if we were to land Spida we would need a 3rd party involved to get the Hawks their ruckman.

          Parkin just said that he believed Hay, Spida and Crawford were offered the opportunity to leave if they wanted. Initially only Hay was interested. The talk among media types this morning was that Sydney would be mad to give up too much for him as it would drastically compomise their long-time future. The popular view is that in fact more draft choices by swapping a few expendable players would be the way to go.

            I'm inclined to agree - and Parkin should no admitted on WLF they shot themselves in the foot with their post Premiership trading (getting Davenport etc).

            Hawthorn won't look for a fair trade - an extreme one

              Thought about this all night - apologies if someone has already come up with this idea

              No way can we afford to lose Okeefe - so here is my suggestion - feel free to poke holes through it if you wish.

              This is all assuming hawks are willing to trade of course

              Mcveigh and Powell to Essendon, in exchange essendon will send second round pick to Hawks (not sure what number it is) and Ted Richards to the Swans.
              Saddington and Picks 19 and 32 to the Hawks in exchange for Everitt

                I think the Hawks are being cagey sounding like they won't deal but secretly they're probably salivating at the prospect of getting more draft picks etc. to load up for the future. They will be a fair proposition in the next five years when their young talent matures. It's meant to not have great top-end talent (this year's draft), but good depth so there's nothing wrong with using picks like #19 to get someone for the future. Spida is a huge risk because he will only give max. 2 decent years and if he breaks down the experiment has backfired. No way should ROK be traded for him. He's needed for the forward line with MOL in serious decline. There is also a need for a midfielder and probably another defender. Why put all the eggs into the ruck basket?

                  Has McVeigh re-signed yet? If so, we can't trade him unless he requests it.

                    Doyle v Everitt:
                    - Everitt the better ruckman by far.
                    - Everitt will cost us picks + players + expensive.
                    - Doyle is free and cheap.
                    - Everitt could give us 2 years tops
                    - Doyle can give us up to 7 years tops.
                    - Everitt has injury history.
                    - Doyle has more injury history.

                    Interesting decision for Roos and co.

                      Well, I guess we will have to trust Roos and the recruiting staff to get our money's worth. Obviously it would be great if we could get Everitt, but not if the price is too high. Hawthorn have no motivation to trade with us, so they will ask well over the odds for him.

                      In much the same way, any of our players, even the premiership 21 who are left, they all have their price. There's maybe a handful that I would consider untouchable or with little trade value, but otherwise... put the cards on the table.

                      IMO we have another 2-3 years to really challenge for flags. Keep topping up the list with quality kids if possible, but I reckon we have to make some bold decisions now so that we can maximise our return while we are at this stage.

                      177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

                        I think he signed last year from memory

                        I thought anyone could be traded, however if they are already contracted the individual has to accept and they are able to decline.........in which case no trade could be done.

                          Doyle
                          Age = 24
                          H = 204
                          W = 103

                          Everitt
                          Age = 31
                          H = 203
                          W = 102

                            Hawthorn will play hardball initially but as deadline approaches a deal favouring us will be more likely.

                            The key will be to get a ruckman to Hawthorn so another club may need to get involved.

                            Obviously Sydney are very keen having offered a 3 year deal.

                            I wonder was the medical prognosis on Doyle is? The fact we are looking for another ruckman must be a real blow to the bloke's confidence.

                              Hello? Trade talk?

                              I wouldn't mind Ted Richards but apparently Sheedy's refused a straight swap for Saddo (did someone mention cello's?).

                              In other news, Fremantle have delisted Dion Woods, he's too old/experienced for a Rookie spot but perhaps a late pick in the draft? Thoughts?

                                Note that Everitt has played 44 games (ie: all of them) in the past two seasons, while Doyle has played 20.
