I cant recall any youngster that Essendon let out and turned out to be a success at another club. Established players, may be yes but promising players coming from Essendon always turned out to be duds after leaving them.

Pls give me a name to disprove my theory.

Wrong way of looking at it. I would guess that a good 30% of pick #19s, and closer to 50% of pick #35s, never get as far in their careers as Chambers and Richards already have. And that's with up to 4 years of a club keeping a spot on the list for 'em and paying 'em a salary.

This is why the draft is an expensive, as well as an unreliable, crapshoot. So Roos' philosophy is right: if you don't have a pick which is going to get you a very likely 100-game player (usually that's a top-10 pick), then you'll trade a pick for a decent (youngish but mature) body every time.

Obviously you have to believe that the bloke is capable of taking the next step. Sydney wouldn't have picked them up if they didn't think that. But if we win the bet, we get all of the good bit of their career (which could still be very, very long) without all of the fiddly and risky bad stuff.

About 25 but then he was already established myself as a player. Everyone knew he could play by then.

Plus the Swans aren't looking for future stars but rather capable players who can be effectively taught the Swans game plan.

I put my total faith in our premiership coach. I was totally wrong about LRT and in the foreseeable future will not question Roosy. I have learnt my lesson.

I agree - not the worst trade we've ever done. I presume that Barham/Stone have looked carefully at this year's draft & can't see where the value is at picks 19 & 35.

I bet barry was one of the many last year that questioned Jolly's trade.
