Especially when that pick is only #19.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Pick #19 is virtually a second round pick anyway - it would have been if not for all the priority picks the AFL is handing out this year.

And we're not 'topping up' in the sense that the 'mature' players we've been targeting are all around 23 or younger, with decent AFL experience - Jolly last year, Chambers is only 23 and Richards 22. So if things turn out OK, these 3 could easily give us at least 25 years of service between them. Not bad recruiting IMO.

If we had picks #6, #19, #35 and #55 then sure pick #19 is expendable.

Now we have only pick #55. Our one hope of getting any value out of the 2006 draft is gone.

It's just a punt - but one where we know the result in the next year or two (our "premiership window"), rather than 4-5 years down the track.

He only has to be the 3rd tall defender, anything else will be a bonus. And if we fail in 2006 - well let's keep our picks for next years boom draft.

I'll take this trade. I think the site where he is listed at 96kg would be BS. Definately more on the late 80 kg side.

As long as we don't trade our draft picks next year then i will be happy as next year's draft is presumed to be one of the deepest.

But if we had drafted a key defender at pick #19 and a ruckman at pick #35, would you be disappointed?

There's a far greater chance that Richards and Chambers will succeed in the AFL than either of those two picks.

I'm happy with another tall for the backline. Despite being suspicious of Sheedy I don't think we've lost too much, if anything with this trade.

Still have a feeling the Spida deal is a possibility. Maybe its just hope.

Hang in there. We have until 2pm tomorrow to remain hopeful. If we do get Spider it will have been an incredibly successful trade period for the club: a first class ruckmen (arguably the best in the country), a young back up ruckman and a tall defender.

Doubtful. By 22/23 you can usually tell if someone's going to make it or not. Essendon and Geelong clearly dont think so.

Although given our ruck situation, #35 for chambers is a good trade.
