    That's a luxury.
There is usually the common theme of "we need some young talls", well in my opinion we have already had our draft:

    Richards
    Vogels
    Shaw
    Grundy
    Chambers

Sure these boys may have come via our rookie list and perceived overpriced trading, but who says that a tall that we would have picked with the same pick in the draft would turn out better. Who knows, this could be our 2011 premiership winning spine. Hindsight in a couple of years will determine whether or not this has been the right move, but we certainly have some young talls on our list now, and it seems we have our heads screwed on. Also, the thing that I appreciate about all these young talls is that they're not Kate Mosses, they have some size about them. What was that, Saddington and Powell?

I like the poll on sydneyswans.com.au (a first) where it lists our lower picks:

    -O'loughlin #40
    -Goodes #43
    -O'Keefe #56
    -Schneider #60
    -Buchanan #45

All is not lost in this year's post season's moves.

In 2 years time they will run this poll again and Malceski will have the highest % out of the lot.

It is part of their mind games to make us feel better about the low draft picks for 2005.

Once you throw in Jolly, Doyle, Goodes, BBBH, Ericksen, LRT, Matt Davis (sure ain't fat but is over 190cm) and Andrew Hayes (if retained as a rookie), I think there is no issue that, for the first time in years, Sydney has plenty enough talls on its list. Given that 8 of the above list have either not played at all in Sydney colours, or have played fewer than 20 games of firsts for us, the question is not whether we have enough, but whether enough of them will come up to scratch.

Plus we're not short of high-180s players like MO'L, ROK, Dempster, CBolt etc.

This means the very sad, but long-overdue, end of "Sydney have got to draft talls, talls and more talls" threads. Can we arrange some kind of casket and flowers?

I think your bundeling of everyone over 6.3 as a "tall" is a little superficial. . . . and possibly heightist!

Yes, the arrival of Chapman and the promotion of Shaw has certainly bolstered our ruck stocks after Jason's retirement.

On the other hand while the arrival of SuperTed and the listing of Vogels and Grundy have added to our potential KPP stocks, the retirement of Schauble and the exporting of Saddo and Powell have subtracted from them.

So I don't think we have a surfeit of talls at all, at all at all.

What size players do you suggest we draft? More ooompah-looompah's like Monty, Schneider, Willoughby, More and Schmidt?

To sprout the good ol' cliche, whatever is available with the most talent. We are not bereft of any such size, so pick and hope for the best.

I would suggest Dowler would be a player that we would take a punt with. Talented but badly injured, we won't need him for a couple of years so give it to him. Talented but injured would be the way to go IMO.

Agreed. If Beau Dowler was able to sneak down that far in the draft, we should have no hesitations in taking him.

We certainly don't need any more 175-184cm in-and-under midfielders. I'm happy with the 'best available' philosophy-- our squad is relatively balanced and if a player is good enough he'll find a spot. But, given a free hand, I'd say another outside midfielder (to complement Williams/McVeigh), a tough but quick midsized tagger/defender a la Crouch, and anyone who is (or will be) high-180s, is mobile and can take a mark, in the CBolt/Dempster/ROK mould. You never know yr luck in a big city, but with our picks, and the premium that recruiters place on height, we won't be picking the long-term replacement for BBBH or the next Goodes in 2005.

You're obviously getting your info from the old 'Collingwood 6 footer' book. Or you've been doing the old 'get 'em in stilettos and measure them' trick. The Swans' website says:
                      MO'L 188cm
                      O'Keefe 187cm
                      Dempster 189cm

But 185 cm is 6 foot, so they are all taller by a few inches than a Collingwood 6 footer
