No 14 was handed down to Kelly IIRC. PK started as a high Number. Keep the tradition going and hand it down to Monty or Kirky!! Two who truely deserve the recognition.
    go bloods!!

I think Kirk is too old to get it now...needs to go to a younger up and coming star

Probably agree GS. But Kirky's G & D remind me so much of Kel and i reckon he'd be the type of bloke that would be humbled by getting the No 14.

I'm afraid I can't agree with any of you.

          # 4 and # 14, the jumpers of true Swans champions, should be retired and hung out in full view, possibly on a Hills Hoist somewhere near Jabba's Hill at the SCG.

No need to get all worked up about the great number 14.

I don't think it will or needs to be retired fully, but neither do we need to rush out and hand it to the first young midfielder that shows any promise.

When the time is right both the club and supporters will know it is time to bestow it upon our next leader and champion.

At this stage I don't beleive anyone is worthy with the exception of Kirk, Leo & Bazza. But they all have numbers which we associate with them and the timing is just not right career wise.

The opportunity to rush out has well and truly escaped us.

So Bazza becomes captain and he has to give up #1? We rotate the captaincy and the jumper changes weekly? Nah.

Skilts wasn't a midfielder IIRC, he was a rover

Like many people, sports people are incredibly superstitious. This includes the number, their game day routine, the scungy manky bag they take (a la Plugger). Why would an existing player want another number - what about all the supporters who get a number of their own jumper of their favourite player?

It might make some bad hoodoo voodoo carma stuff happen to change things and we have had 72 years. We are finally experiencing some luck...............uh oh...wait a minute......keep the jumper in retirement. We have never won a premiership with a captain wearing #14. We should burn it!

I myself returned from overseas and wore my lucky premiership year "home game knickers" and "away game knickers" and you can't tell me that this didn't swing things in the swans favour in 2005.

Do the away ones have hoops?

It's a shame that the famous No. 14 jumper wasn't running around on grand final day.... I'm sure Skilts and Kel would have been wrapped to see it up on the dais!!

So is that a vote for Monty? He's the first true rover we've had since Barry Mitchell.
