Play with the Roos, live in Melbourne, be unhappy
    or
come back to Sydney, play for fun, be happy and earn a packet from Daddy-in-Law.

He has made his choice, and it does not mean he's sitting on his @rse and not making any money. He has decided to forego an opportunity to play footy for a living. There are a lot of us out there who fall into the 'non-professional athlete' category and who manage to still manage to survive . I think he'll be ok in the real world.
THere's a bit more information to this post than your first that simply said if he couldn't play for the Swans he wouldn't play for anyone, and no professional footballer is going to make that choice.

Maybe he is a professional footballer of a different kind.

People seem to think that just because you're a professional athlete, you're going to be happy wherever you go. It's not so. Perhaps, to Powell, the opportunity to play with mates in an organisation that suits him is more important than the pay packet.

To the casual observer, his chucking in the towel is a waste of talent. I do agree, and whilst it sounds trite, I also think that it is just as important to be happy. He might be one of those blokes who does a lot better and enjoys his time more if he has a non-footy job and plays in the SFL or something. Maybe he'll take a few years off and have another crack at the big time...

Unless he logs on and tells us the full story, only time will tell.

I can't believe that nobody is bagging him on here. It was a p*ss weak effort on his part.

If he didn't have the passion or committment to play AFL fine, but by waiting until after the PSD he basically has left North one player short.

Also he has either cost Woewodin his last chance at an AFL career or a young player the chance to get a spot on a list.

It's got nothing to do with his love of the Swans either as according to an interview with Paul Roos he asked to be traded for greater opportunities

If he'd pulled an act like that while on our list you'd all be baying for his blood

At which point it becomes more difficult to describe him as a professional sportsman.

True, but he's not one anymore. His amateur ideals have reared their head.

No. He's thinking below his stomach. Pure and simple. I hope for his sake that she's worth it.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
