Nothing trite about wanting to be happy...but still a disappointing effort on his part to wait until after the PSD, leaving the Roos a player short, amateur ideals or not.

The reason that Powell quit footy isn't any high-minded amateur sportsman principles. His girlfriend didn't like living in Melbourne. He decided to come back to Sydney with her.

If he didn't have the passion or committment to play AFL fine, but by waiting until after the PSD he basically has left North one player short.

Also he has either cost Woewodin his last chance at an AFL career or a young player the chance to get a spot on a list.

It's got nothing to do with his love of the Swans either as according to an interview with Paul Roos he asked to be traded for greater opportunities

If he'd pulled an act like that while on our list you'd all be baying for his blood
For this act alone Powell is the hack of the year which absolves me of needing to identify any more hacks. Hack of the highest order. Anyone have a photo of his girlfriend?

As you all would know by now I hate the Kangaroos and it is my opinion they can suck eggs for being one short this season if Powell doesn't change his mind.

We got rid of some dead wood just in time.

However (and I can't find the story on the web to post it for you), but when I was home over Christmas, The Border Mail in Albury-Wodonga (Powell's home town), quoted him as saying he had lost interest when he was playing for us.

quote - "I was hoping I would get injured so I wouldn't have to play or train," - unquote.

And (not sure of exact wording) "I thought a move to a new club and environment would get me interested again but there was no difference".

I thought pick 61 was too cheap for him but it appears we should be happy to get anything.

Ryan Brabazon has a lot to live up to

Sorry to be pedantic kids, but it's a little presumptuous to say that we got Brabazon for Powell. As we were only ever gunna take 3 picks, our last pick got bumped up from about 65 to 59 by trading Powell. As Brabazon was not prominent on the talent-spotters' radar (so far as the press reports and websites go) prior to the draft, it's very likely he would have been still available at 65 anyway.

All we got for offloading Powell was a space on our list. And it looks like it was a good trade.

Good luck to 'im in the future, in whatever he does.

There is a thread about it on Big Footy.
Not wanting to sound like bee dee, but... Does anyone else know about the Mark Powell story. I've heard he has quit football and gone back to Sydney with his girlfriend, who couldn't settle in Melbourne. Part of the reason was that said girlfriend's father offered Powell big money to work for...

The bloke apparently said she couldn't settle in Melbourne and that he was offered a top job back in Sydney in her dad's company.

I actually was on the same flight as his mum and dad on the day of his first game. She told me that he had problems with motivating himself at times.

Now we know what she meant by this. Mark Powell is another "could have been', I think.

I don't like the term wanker

I prefer to use "owner operator'

ie he uses his own equipment

I thought Powell had ability - he was hard at it

but a real space cadet who thought he was better than he really was

Yeah it is great that we shat on the Kangapoos and got a trade for a dud - almost as good as when we done the same thing to the filthy scum of collingwood and they got shafted with
                                Mark Kinear ha! ha!

What is better than beating Collingwood by over 100 points ??

Beating them by 1 point like we did this year amid the timekeeping controversy !
