On the subject of Hall's strength did anyone else notice in the Pies game when Hall was tackled by a Pie (looked like a good strong tackle too) and Hall didn't just break the tackle - he threw the tackler to the ground like a rag doll with one shake of his body.

    Now that's strength!!

As long as they take him though the odd thousand contested mark drill. Sure his groundwork strength is very good but he wouldn't need to do it so often if held on to a contested grab or two.
Been trying to remember his performances for the Saints and how strong or otherwise he was in this area??? Any takers.

floppinab - Hall hasnt changed much in that department since his st.kilda days, infact he may be slightly better in that department now than he was then believe it or not.

Personally I think a comment like 'if they don't improve they should be traded/delisted, which I acknowledge is the way some people worded it, is just pretty basic/redundant/meaningless.

You'll (and I'm speaking generally) get some nasty splinters making comments like that.

Either the player flounders and you can say "See, I was right to question them wasn't I", or the player comes good and you can say "well they were playing poorly and all I did was question them - I'm glad they've finally proven themselves".

I think I'd rather people make outlandish statements that are just wrong than sit on the fence and use a lot of words to say nothing - at least the former is a statement.
Oh well Steve, I guess we'll just have to disagree on this.

I prefer people to say for certain players that if they don't improve they should be traded as it recognises their potential and gives them another shot. After all you can't carry some players for too long. I think this approach is preferable to simply saying someone should be cut now, after a recent poor run of form. I don't see the former as sitting on the fence or hedging bets or whatever.

Time...??? By the end of this year JB would have been up around 90 games. By that time he should have proved himself, hence my view that this year was his last chance to do so. And currently he is doing that. But please, enough on the "give him time" - he was very borderline making it.

                Was he?

Jude improved 99 - 2000 before treading water - this is not uncommon, most young players tread water for a while whilst they build up strength and fitness for AFL. Players can only play as well as their physical fitness and development will let them.

As I said when everyone was slagging him last year, ain't much point bagging players who haven't had the years to develop into AFL players. If they have a poor work ethic fine - other than that it needs patience.

The 90 games means nothing short lists mean clubs play guys earlier than they would in previous years.

I think he was always going to make it - supporters just need to be realistic about how long it takes.

I pointed out plenty of players last year with similar or less experience than him who were far further down the development track, so I don't see much excuse for him needing over 100 games.

Well one day have a chat with a senior AFL player of 150 games get an indication of how long it takes to get the fitness up for AFL standard.

Bolts AFL games was only in the mid 60s at begining of this year.

As I said when this arguement previously came up, what were some of these people's opinions of Paul Kelly when he was 22?

Funny that a number of other players were better players at similar games experience and are very good well before 100 games, and a number of those weren't taken at no 7 in the draft.
