Y'know, while I've let fly with a bit of "Bull@@@@!!!" at the footy, there's way too much high level profanity from the bogans at Subi and Footy Park.
port adelaide fans suck

I went down for the game and I've got to say the Port supporters we met, or sat beside, were no different to any other fans I've met. Despite warnings of them being "feral", "one eyed" or "aggressive" - I didn't see it - only footy fans who wanted to talk footy....I was in the middle of several hundred port fans and I was vocal - and apart from good natured banter saw or heard nothing out of the ordinary (being 6 foot 3 with a solid build maybe helps!!). They boo Sydney goals?! - so what, do you really care...?
Interesting that not one of them I spoke to thought the flag was heading their way - it may be their inferiority complex but the common view was the Crows would win it again.....Regards,

Yes, the Port Cheer Squad and Outer Army (far better than the CS both in terms of numbers and noise, it must be said) are to be thanked for all their tremendous help in getting our banner up. I don't think most of you realise that had Port not poled the thing at THEIR own banner-making on Thursday night, we'd not have had a banner at all to run through. We were greeted very cordially by the Outer Army as well at their BBQ, despite the SA weather.
But yes, Charlie is right. I was trying my best to NOT upset people. I moved twice so that I could wave my flag away from as many people as I could. Then some of the women made it their point to be as annoying as possible. "Like how dare you have the teremity to wave your flag and cheer for the opposition near me." When they realised that I was actually quite approachable and was trying to be as accommodating as possible they were a little better. But I had travelled thousands of kilometres and paid hundreds of $$ to be there. And I was going to wave my flag no matter what. They bought memberships near the away Cheer Squad. They'd just have to accept that I have the right to support my team too. (Maybe security could have let me out onto the ground at 1/2 to give them a "test wave" so as not to wet too many people.
I take it as a compliment though that we were ruffling a few of the locals' feathers. For basically the whole first quarter we had their team under our fingernail. And they WERE worried. However we did NOT put them away. We should have been 3-4 goals up by quarter time, but weren't. Nick Fosdike, who I saw at the airport coming home, kicked 0-3 in the first quarter from memory.
South Australians are still the easiest to stirr up though. They bite so easily. I made quips about them having to watch the Olympics on TV, total silence, not even an attempt at a come-back. I even said to one when his home phone area code was going to change to (03). I knew it upset him!
Oh, and say to an Adelaidian that anything in their city is small and they are bound to snap. Paul from the CS said innocently "Man, this airport is small enough to be for a country town" The guy in the car picking us up nearly threw him out.
I got called a "****ing Sydney poofter". I smiled with pride.
I know there are Port people who are reading this but I have to say this. Despite the weather, despite the unpopular Saturday time slot, the atmosphere on Saturday was far far worse than at the Crows match the year before. Port have better flags. And unlike Melbourne crowds, all chant. But the Crows crowd is so much larger that you really hear the chanting out of the new grandstand (which incidentally has to be the most stupidly placed stand of any football ground in Australia-why is it not on Centre wing where people are more likely to pay for a stand seat.) Sure Port only has its traditional SANFL supporters (the ones who need the words to "Power from Port" on the screen?). The Crows have basically the rest of South Australia, 8 of the 9 SANFL clubs supporters.
In Melbourne you still can get involved with banter etc with supporters of the other team. In Adelaide you are more than likely going to get a "Get stuffed" or something similar.
Still I found Footy Park quite tame on Saturday.
We have nothing to lose in playing you in a final Mr Paralowie. Port are very suspect at the SCG. We are more than capable of beating Port on our day, which shows you how far our lil old team has come in such a short period of time.

My experiences at the Port game were similiar to you even though we were in a different sector of the ground . See my previous posting. One thing that I also noticed was the parochi alism of the South Aussie media eg Hewitt is a South Aussie while Philippoussis is an Australian player. However , this approach may not be unique to South Australia alone.WMPComment

Gee what next? Geelong supporters telling us how to be vocal at the footy?
You people dont seen to understand, we are a Football Club, not a state side like the Cows, West Coast and yourselfs. The fact is if the game was played the following day we would of got an extra 5000-10000. Anyone seen the crowd at Optus 19000 for Carlton and Cows, now that is pathetic.Port Adelaide Football Club

You don't half winge a bit swans fans!!
We hate losing..we hate umpires..we hate opposition teams and fans...
is this out of the ordinary??NO..quite clearly, to most, not out of the ordinary at all.
If you guys weren't such a basketball crwod, you'd understand. As paralowie says, you're a state side. Get over it.
Half the fun of being an AFL fan is going interstate and copping ****. We do when we go away..the only difference is, we don't go home and sulk and post about how feral the opposition fans are. We cop it, and give it back, and accept it as part of footy. What did you expect here? the red carpet treatment?
And no, we are very different to a crows crowd..we're passionate and we barrack and support and chant..and give **** when ****'s due...The silence at some crows home games id eerie.
And we don't actually like the scoreboard cheering crap much either. But we have no say over that..the scoreboard operator does..call him the pathetic one, not us.
And we admit our airport is a ****ing disgrace.lol..but what that has to do with football god knows.
And you're right Julian, your team is capable of beating anyone on its day..but i guess saturday wasn't was it. Would all the posts here be so negative against us if you'd won?
we won..you lost..get over it and move on...Port Adelaide 2003!Comment

Explain to me how we are a "State Side" considering we are from Melbourne. You guys don't like it when other fans knock your SANFL history, and you didn't like it when Eddie got all worked up about your jumper (He was wrong anyway), so please not forget we have a proud history as South Melbourne.
If you read the umpire thread no where did anyone say if the umpires were on our side that we would of won, because it wasn't the case, Port were to good. So don't come on this site and bag us because we have a few gripes, which still don't alter the fact we lost and we lost to the better side.Once was, now elsewhereComment

Not bagging you..and the umpires weren't an issue at all.
Seems there are a few swans fans on here who are doing the bagging.
I'm just not sure what you expected coming to Adelaide to watch your team? I've been to the SCG, Subiaco, Skilled, Tesltra Dome, Optus Oval, MCG, Moorabin, Victoria Park and Waverley..and the crowds are all different..but the common denominator is...away fans are hassled..lol..that's life..geez...you've been in Sydney 21 years..think you'd be use to it by now hey..Port Adelaide 2003!Comment

I called you a state side because you have the majority of NSW behind you, but unlike the crows not forgetting your proud past as South Melbourne.
And yes i do know all about the hurt and pain, when the bloods went to Sydney.Port Adelaide Football Club

Yes, Sydneysiders are very reactive in their support. When the Swans are winning they are loud. When they are losing they are generally quiet (except me complaining!)
Get us in a final and there is NO STADIUM in the AFL that generates as much noise as the SCG. Serious 40000 on a Saturday night at finals time sounds better than 80000 at the G.
Sadly all future finals will be at Stade de Silence, meaning they sound like 10000 even with 70000 in attendence.
You don't get it Chris, the "basketball" mentality is ten times worse at NRL matches. Go to a St George match when they are losing and watch how many stay on the Kogarah hill.
It is the abuse of away supporters at Port matches we are refering to. Still I've been to Europe, so a few whinging Port ladies are really very tame indeed. Last year against the Crows the supporters around me were very very warm. But they cater to a middle class supporter base, and Port to a rougher more "earthy" crowd.
Next time it would be nice to hit SA with a Cheer Squad of more than 3 as well. Lugging all the flags around myself is killing me! When they fell in the mud outside AAMI Stadium I nearly lost the plot!
