How good was it all?
Didn't hear 'Old Lang Syne' being played yesterday, but I'm sure you all heard my drum.Originally posted by scurrilous

How good was the support yesterday? 80% of the Legends Stand GA seating in red and white. And "Sydney" chants even in the grandstand. The Cheer Squad (or should I say Cheer SquadS, as there were a sizable number of Sydney people there), totally CULT!!!!!! Soccer-style singing throughout, everyone joining in with the drum, up to 6 different people leading the chants. And Peter Hatley going mental, as usual.
Peter definitely deserves special mention for his efforts in getting to Melbourne. He left Sydney at 4am and arrived at around 1:30pm. He left straight after the game and was back in Sydney by 2am so he could umpire at 10 the next morning. Respect mate! (Maybe you can advertise for some company/driving companion on the next trip down mate, so you can save a bit on the petrol?)
And to think you very nearly lost your flag too. This dude was standing behind the Cheer Squad. He took my diamond cheque flag to wave, before I asked for it back. The next minute he had taken off down the stairs with Peter's personal flag. He went to find it, but couldn't. Luckily it was located outside the ground. Apparently after some nasty words Peter's sacred flag was recovered.
Ert, Robbie and the Sydney gang were having a kick to kick with a little Carlton kid and his dad outside the ground when suddenly these drunks took off with my big flag, that I had set up after the match. In a state of panic JF, RobbieAndo and Silentlurker set off after this bloke, fearful of losing yet another big flag. Thankfully his mate told him to give it back, as I was going to cream him.
ERT (Dan from Geelong) stands for Express Regional Taxi these days. He has always been more than hospitable in xdriving anyone down from Sydney round when needed. Without his friendly help, we'd never have made it to the cult after-match in Bloods Territory. Thanks mate, and RESPECT again! (By the way, my footy is in your car too.)
This trip was CULT CULT CULT! These Melbourne trips are getting better and better. Everyone knows each other, wherever they are from. Games are turning into RWO social outings these days. But hey, 10 years ago the Sydney and Melbourne-based fans were not on speaking terms, so let's sit back and marvel at where our club has come.
Will post later when I have unpacked my bags.

Well, a year later - and the Carlton game has come and gone again
The ground has it's drawbacks - the limited general admission seats - and therefore the number of people left standing in the aisles, the limited facilities, and the less said about the security the better.
But, with the Legends Stand a sea of red and white - the place ROCKED (with a little help from someone who shares a name with former Swans assisitant Mr. Drum)
The atmosphere was fantastic - not to mention the emotional roller-coaster that was the result - and to cap it all off, the now traditional pizza get together.
The place isn't really up to scratch for an AFL venue nowdays - but I'll kind of miss it if it goesComment
