I agree with Charlie on that point that it is the Carlton home ground and it might upset quite a few people, but hey, it's worth a try because they're not like Megpie supporters after all, and if Jules leaves the ground wearing the drum around his neck, he'll know the sentiment of the Carlton supporters.

I'm more concerned about the cheer squad members who, at a ground like Carlton, have no choice but to sit in an incredibly cramped CS bay. The drum could spoil the game for a lot of people who can't handle that sort of noise.

Charlie the drum would only be used when we are chanting, not the whole game. Its just an aid to get more Swans fans involved in our chanting

So now the true comes out. No offence Charlie, but your dad does have a habit to whinge about quite a lot of things from time to time.

I know you are frothing at the mouth Charlie. Because you have never seen it used before. Robbie was at the Essendon match last year at Stade de Silence and realised how useful it can be in getting some of the cheers heard. Hopefully the beating of the drum will mean not only the CS will join in, but the other Swans supporters around us. At Carlton it is almost like a home match, because the GA area in the Legends Stand is about 70% Swans.

I'll mainly only be using the thing when we get a chant going after a goal anyway. Overuse WILL irritate people, and will give me a huge blister of my drumming hand.

Our little group stand up the back of the CS area to the left. If you think anyone would be likely to complain, have them sit on the right.

Last year was fanastic at Optus Oval and then the match started

Charlie, how about if we get the drum into the ground, we use it and if it gets too many complaints we stop using it. We should at least try it.

JF You planning on bringing down any flags?????

I realise my dad complains... but you should realise that I'm powerless to do anything about it. Dad is just one of many older people in the cheer squad who are going to be very offside if you use a drum.... he won't be the only one.

I was at last year's Essendon match as well, and as I said, it's good at an open venue like SA. Optus is very different... it is cramped, it is hemmed in... obviously you don't see the obvious problems with using a drum.

If you want to use it... fine. Use it. I can't stop you. But please keep in mind that ENJOYING the match is 100 times more important than how good the cheering sounds, for EVERYONE. Enjoyment is why we go to the footy, not to get "Sydney, clap clap clap" heard on the TV. That's fun, until it is taken too seriously.

Charlie, how about if we get the drum into the ground, we use it and if it gets too many complaints we stop using it. We should at least try it.
That's more reasonable... but how many complaints are too many?

Guys... don't get me wrong... generally, your style of cheering is fantastic... all I'm saying is that it has it's limits, and I think a drum at Optus Oval is beyond the limit of what is fun. There's not enough room, pure and simple.

                *End rant*

Gem, you won't have any problems, the official flag pole limit is 1.8m and we have gotten that Irish flag in many time, heck JF manged to get his big flag into Optus Oval last year

That's my attitude. If you are all quiet and hunched over after a Swans goal, then there is something wrong with you.

Especially during the first quarter, I'll be restricting it to mainly just when goals are kicked, so that people have the change to get used to it.

Sunday arrangments-Sainters v Roos or Storm v Broncos

                          Guys there are two options,
As it appears that several of us ARE staying until the Sunday night, we have several alternatives as to what we can get up to.
Gemma intimated that she did want to go to see a match at the Telstra Dome, and seemed keen on watching Essendon-Brisbane there. My attitude is that I'd rather go out for dinner with the Cheer Squad pizza gang, as this will be the biggest meet-up yet.

However there IS a game on the Sunday. North vs St Kilda. Not the best game. But I'll go if you want to go Gem.

Otherwise there is the Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos NRL match. Before several of you snort your noses at that thought, I'm just curious as a supporter of an "expansion side" in the AFL, what things would be like for a rugby league team in Melbourne.

Let me know what you plan to do. Any local taggers-on are naturally very welcome if they are bored.

                          Julie, the tour director.

PS:- Anyone up to meet for a late brunch on Sunday morning? Then we could go onto whatever match we want to go to as a group.

If you are lacking entertainment on Sunday morning you can always visit "grassroots footy" the Sunbury Lions Under 11's are lining up against Romsey at Romsey. 9am start.

Dr J's and my son will be out there.

I'm kicking up a stink having to get up at 8am on a Saturday to go to banner making next weekend.

Getting up at 9am on a Sunday morning when on holiday in Melbourne will be totally out of the question.

You are also inferring that I'll be home at 9am on Sunday!
