That puts him on top of the tackle count with 81 ahead of Troy Cook on 78. Crouch is 8th on 62. Another interesting stat I discovered is that Jude Bolton has the 3rd most Frees For in the comp!

On Saturday night we missed Stuey's tackling and that is where once again Kirk stepped up. Kirk has really got gas in his tank thanks to Roos.
      Love those Swans

Doesnt surprise me, arguably the most courageous player at the swans and the player who puts his nose over the pill more than anyone.

Kirk a star? Is this the same Kirky you are talking about whose back would be red raw from the daggers hurled by certain R&WOLiners over the past year or so... Yep, I think so.
Well done Captain...the thing is you didn't deserve the barbs back then...but you sure deserve the accolades now...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Sydney?s Brett Kirk was handed a mission last Wednesday - close down talented St Kilda midfielder Lenny Hayes in their match at the SCG on Saturday night, and he looked forward to the challenge.

The result led to Sydney?s ninth win from their previous 11 outings as the Swans march towards a finals berth.

Hayes was the leading possession-getter in the league with 379 heading into round 15 - averaging 29 touches per match - while also leading his club in tackles this season (70).

But Kirk managed to contain the former NSW/ACT under-18 representative to just five possessions by three-quarter time and 11 for the match.

?My job was to not let Lenny have too much influence on the game and he didn?t get a heap of the footy so I thought I did OK,? Kirk told afl.com.au.

Midway through the first quarter as Kirk went for one of his nine strong and clinical tackles of the match the crowd behind the Sydney bench yelled and cheered.

By the second term, when Sydney was building a lead, Hayes missed an open goal 12 metres out which summed up how effective Kirk was in his job, and has become to the side.

?My role in the team is to play on the one of the best midfielders in the other side and try to negate their influence and if I am doing that it doesn?t matter if I am touching the ball as long as they are not.?

Coach Paul Roos thought Kirk did a terrific job and said ?well done? to the 26-year-old after the match, which meant a lot to him.

Last year the North Albury junior found himself wondering where his career was heading, but has grown another leg since Roos took charge.

?It just shows once you get opportunities and just preserve with things, if you take them when they are there ? it?s good.?

Stand-in captain Paul Williams said it was excellent to watch a bloke like Kirk develop.

Before too long, the hard-working midfielder may find himself asked to mark opposing midfielders in September, but for now he just to have fun.

?We are just really enjoying our footy and things seem to be rolling on so there is no talk at all about the finals.?
