Okay, i generally try to stay clear of umpire bashing, but tonights performance was disgraceful. For what is supposed to be the 2nd biggest game of they year, we got Auskick standard umpiring. Things like the advantage rule andin the back were far too inconsistent. And when Goldspink pinged Tiger for stepping on the line, which i thought was ok, Chris Johnson and stepped totally outside the square 2minutes berfore it, he left the side in a wind up to a kick. And the bounce by one ump, the young one, must have been recalled because it was as good as a kick for the Lions
Also Lynch and Brown had missed marks handed to them by the boys in yellow. I would like to wish my luck to the team that successfully defeated us tonight, the umps

I rather like my TV set so I don't think I'll ever watch the tape I made of tonight's game. Umpires make errors but one hopes for consistency. Tonight we seemed to have umpires leaning towards favouring one team over the other. And it happened throughout.

The start of the game set the pattern - give three penalties in a row until the Lions score.

I hope the umpires board have a look at a tape of tonight's game and remove an umpire who was either biased - or bought. And that's not a possibility I've ever considered before but is the only one that matches the facts.

Even stranger is that upiring bias was predicted on this board during the week. We knew (or some less naive than me did) - but the AFL didn't?

It probably didn't affect the outcome - well maybe not. We were close enough at the final turn had we had the legs, and the real shockers had already been handed down by then.

But I too was going spare. That free to Lynch for slipping over was a shocker. Like to hear Gieshen defend that one.

Lynch getting that free killed me. I was sitting there thinking "if they have to lose, please let if be by more than a goal... or there will be a riot if Brisbane go to the grand final because of that decision...:
I thought that Schauble was, yet again, fantastic against Lynch. Unlucky for Lynch to walk away with 3 goals. Apart from those 3 goals Lynch only had 3 disposals.

Five goals would not have mattered they were fantastic in that final term we got taught a real lesson. For what it is worth the umps were down tonight but It didnt really effect the outcome.

This is the first time I've had a go at umpires on this board, but
I reckon Lynch and Lloyd are koalas (protected species) and also they have dirty photo's of all the maggots.

Compare them to the treatment that Plugga and BBBBH get.

Why was the mark to O'Keefe taken off him in the 1st QTR ?

The canaries in yellow were sub standard, as mentione the Lynch "Free" for slipping over and then down the other end BBBBH being climbed all over and sfa happens
A couple of times when the Swans managed a free quick for some reason the Umps decide not to play advantage and then just to top things off Goldspink?? starts seeing things ruling the line had been crossed from a kick in..I was down that end and there looked to be at least 3 I saw by Bris, that looked as bad if not worse..
That rant off my chest it seems the Swans used up all there energy getting back into the game at 3Q time, ahh if only the Quarter was about 5 mins longer

I have to agree with DPW that we were beaten by a better side on the night. It is all well and good blaming the umpires but we have to accept that we weren't quite good enough on the night.
Full credit to the boys for digging in and playing their hearts out, at least they kept trying right to the end. I' hoping that the Swans will be better for their experience.
I'm proud of the Swans and their efforts and am hoping that they will be fired up for an even better season in 2004 and that we are Melbourne bound for a great last weekend in September.

I agree with, 'we were beaten by a better side on the night' remark.

However, there were 'fatal' umpiring decision that could have put Sydney a goal in front, or a goal behind- it really could have made the difference.

I also want to say that Halls efforts last night were absolutely fan-bloddy-tastic.

All the best to Brisbane- I hope you flog the pants off Collingwood next week. The only thing worse than seeing my beloved Swannies loose, is seeing Collingwood hold the 'holy grail' up.

ONWARD TO VICTORY IN 2004

The Umps had a huge influence on the game early - I reckon I woke the neighbours quite a few times. Why the bloody hell do we get crap umpiring (especially in our forward line) in the most important games?

Still, a pretty good year - cheers all.

We also agree that we were beaten bu the better side in the end but there seemed to be several things missed by the umps on our boys that seemed to defy reality - Nick Davis in a headlock twice with no free kick - one of them on the boundary line with a Lion on top of him for at least a minute with his arm around his neck, Acker actually kicking Crouch to get the ball off him, Goodes being held off the ball several times.

The first three minutes set the scene that would continue at least in the first half - at least three Lions goals came from free kicks - maybe it wouldn't have stemmed the tide that happened in the last but you can't tell me that the Swans weren't a little timid to make contact after all that the softies that were called in the first quarter.

Brisbane may have been a better side on the night, due to our usual game plan going out the window. We didn't run it out nearly as much as we have and resorted to the wings instead of going "down the guts", but you can't say that was the only factor.

The umpiring was in instances dreadful. I watched the replay before I made any calls, as sometimes you do miss circumstances when at the game. They were not consistant. I'm still trying to figure out why Pebbles had the mark taken away from him. I hate umpire bashing, as it's part of the game you have good days and bad. Last night though???

Momentum is a big thing a couple of soft frees that result in goals changes everything. If both teams benefited from them so be it. I didn't think this was the case last night.

Just wondering if I could do a short survey?

Could anybody tell me if they couldn't see a highly suspicious pattern emerging in the first five minutes of the game? Personally I thought it was a rigged game at that stage. Even the unbiased Collingwood supporter I watched it with thatought so too. Bl**dy outrageous!!!
