Just watched the first couple of minutes on tape to try and decipher those Brisbane free kicks given early on. Bloody disgraceful. The first one against Hall was a joke, he gave a little nudge to Michael as they going over the line. And still can't figure out the reversal given against O'Keefe.

    Worst!
    Umpiring!
    Ever!

Anyway on a lighter note, anyone recognise those 'hoons' shown on TV giving it to the umpires.

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

        The Ryan O'Keefe mark

That would be the decision where Leppitsch tripped over his own 2 feet within 5 meters of where Big Bad Bazza was standing - which in the "gold fink" rule book means Bazza knocked him over - so they took the ball off Ryno.

Though I must admit, a crappy decision like this did go our way in the Port game 2 weeks ago - Lade had the ball about 20 out from our goal - Crouchy and Cochrane tangled, and Crouchy dead set fell over - net result being Cressa (nearest player to the ball) got a shot from 20 out.

Having said that, I still thing Goldspink is the lowest excuse for a human being on the planet - and I wouldn't doubt he had a word in the ears of the other 2 clowns (who have at least been semi-competent in patches through the year) before the game.

But I have no-one to blame but myself for still going ahead and booking my ticket even AFTER I found out that tool would be umpiring

          Absolute effing Maggots.

Cost us heaps in the first half.

If only Hall got the same armchair ride as the drug cheat Lynch, he would kick 6 every game.

Goldspink is pathetic, yes. But what about the other young one, he was disgusting, i thought that with money flowing in like it is now we would be able to match what the Lions paid

We were beaten by a better side , but agreed , the umpiring was poor.
The standard was set early - Lynch had Schauble by the throat before the first bounce - no free.
Slackermanis kicked Crouch and I don't think we got one for that either.

Stats for the game - Sydney 17 frees, Brisbane 12 frees.

I wonder what the Lions supporters thought of the umpiring.

My worst decision was not a free, it was the disallowed mark to Schneider in the dying moments of the 3rd qtr. The replay clearly showed that the ball did not hit the ground, yet the ump was less than 10 metres from the spot and on the correct angle.

                  NFI.

Also on the Schneider mark. Hos opponent was all over him like a rash and also could have been easily in the back.

What about the runner getting in the way of the boundry ruck contest in the first quarter. I think it was one of the Brisbane runners. Shouldn't that be an automatic 50m penalty?

I've watched the game on video now - well, three-quarters of it anyway - and noticed we did get some soft frees as well, and there were a couple in the third quarter the Lions could have been paid but weren't. So maybe overall it wasn't too unbalanced. But there were certainly a few which really played to the Lions' advantage early on, particularly those first 3 pushes in the back which were soft as, and of course the Lynch slip.

On the Schneider mark, I'm pretty sure it did hit the ground first before bouncing up and lodging between his knees. His opponent was all over him and I've seen softer frees paid, but for the umpires to pay a free there, right in front of goal at that time of the game would have been a huge call, and usually the kind they're unwilling to pay.

We just never get 'em in front of goal Lizz, like everybody else seems to.

Can't agree with you there either Lizz, looked pretty much like he did it "busting" style by locking it between his legs, umpie was definately unsighted but it bugs me that we don't get 50/50's like this but Cornes can grass a mark like he did in the Qualifying and the umpie will pay it even though he was also unsighted.

What I am about to suggest might seem a bit radical and off the wall but I think it might actually help improve your overall enjoyment of the game....How about trying to watch the game with two eyes (and I don't mean 1 red & 1 white!)??
I used to be extremely one eyed and whinged about how the umpiring cost us the game etc, etc... One day I decided that this was unheathly and was spoiling my enjoyment of this great game, so I decided to be a little more objective. That doesn't mean I am not passionate about the game and don't love my swans, nor does it mean that I sit quietly at the game when the umpires make a decision I don't like (or agree with). it does mean that I accept that umpiring mistakes/decisions are a factor of the game and it is part of parcel of the rich tapestry of the game. Like anyone of you I am passionate about the boys & I shout out (as my husband refers to them) stock standard phrases "held without it", "over the shoulder", "that was high", "throw", "that wasn't 15", "that was never a mark", "deliberate" and the list goes on... However I also accept that the umpires do make mistakes in our favour, I sometimes say (very quietly) that we were lucky not to give away a free for some infringement.
To suggest the game was rigged is ridiculous, it is in the AFL's interest for the Swans to succeed, it is after all a national competition.
..and to suggest we don't get soft frees is also wrong, just ask the Kangaroos fans (or whatever they call themselves these days) what they thought of the free to Daryn Cresswell at the end of the game last year (about round 4) when we won by 3 points!
I wouldn't like to think that we become disliked as fans because we whinge too much about how the umpires are against us (nobody likes us think we'll go and eat worms), lets try and emulate Adam and be the best and fairest fans!
                            Bring it on!

While we got more free kicks, none directly resulted in us kicking a goal. Also the Schneider mark wasn't a mark, because you can't mark the ball between your legs
                              Once was, now elsewhere

                                Lizz,

what about the 3/4 time mark paid AGAINST us to Chad Cornes in the QF.

We seem to get the worst of both worlds.
