Maybe one or two others. Saddington might get the most out of some of those near the top because there is a perception from some that he can play but I think he is our most overrated and disappointing player apart from Davis. Fosdike was shocking last night as well and must go down as one of the worst #3 picks ever.

Geez, this is a really well thought out post. How about we trade numbers 1 through 36, and start afresh. I reckon even Cressa could get a good deal in a trade. In fact, Kel might attract some interest by clubs who need a new runner next year.

So we want to trade Ball. Reckon Carlton might be interested in this youngun. Jude Bolton, when will he live up to his potential? Kennelly, haven't invested much in his development, no great loss. Nick Davis, I hear, would attract a big offer from Collingwood. Plus they'd be happy that we'd have to pay for most of his contract.

As I understand the new rule - you cannot trade a player that you have just signed to a new contract.

Rules out quite a few including Kennelly - J Bolton I think - Goodes - O'Loughlin

This is intelligent debate, the only way you progress is to assess who can actually win you a flag. Players who are soft or found wanting in finals time and time again obviously can't. Bolton and Fosdike don't strike you as players who will perform in finals. Davis is the softest and not good in big matches and Collingwood would not have him back in a fit. Carlton might be tempted by Ball but his age will go against him. That is why sometime you have to go outside left field and nominate a player of some value who might reap something good in return. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Some on the list I suggested will be merely delisted as they wouldn't attract any interest. Bolton might raise some eyebrows in his home state, Fosdike might interest the Adelaide clubs, Davis probably no team as he is known around the traps as a marshmallow and a mummy's boy.

Remembering that Shannon Grant had two shocking GFs in 96 and 98 - ****e Mike referred to him on Talking Footy as a GF dud.

I will be very dissapointed if we trade Fosdike or Bolton they have been with us since they were drafted and I hope they stay and become the future of our midfield, bolton is a tough player and if Fosdike has played quite a few good games this year he just needs consistency.

He doesn't have Bolton's work ethic or toughness though.

Only point is that players have first (or 2nd) dud finals isn't really the determining factor - more how they respond.

I do not have a problem with Bolts - he just needs to get fitter and stronger to compete with the likes of Brisbane.

Fosdike has never impressed me as 'focussed' - understand he may have been carrying an injury yesterday but he was terrible.

Needs to get stronger and mentally tougher.

And just so I don't look like I'm sniping.

I don't think this side will be really physically mature enough (like Brisbane were in 2001) until 2005/ 2006 when we can realistically be a Premiership threat.

IMO the core of that side will be Bolton (1 & 2) Goodes, O'Loughlin, Davis, Barry, Schneider, Doyle, Kennelly, O'Keefe, LRT, Schauble. IMO we erred in going for the local boy (McVeigh) over the inside midfielder (Salopek).

IMO we have most of the bits and pieces, but need to recruit additional midfielders (especially stronger types) and a developing ruckman - in case Doyle proves consistently injury prone.

Sydney actually has the (on average) tallest list in the comp - many of them just need time to develop (Dempster Hunt James LRT Powell etc)

Please Swans don't go fawning over the next mummy's boy who wants to come home unless it's Hayes. We gave up a precious part of our future, a second pick for him. Hayes is a gun though and I would easily part with a second pick for him.

Thanks Reggi, someone else has acknowleged how Davis's character flaws mean that he will always let you down. Get rid of him now for someone with a bit of backbone and who might raise an effort in a final. Remember Nick was a dud in Collingwood's finals as well as two poor performances this year. I am spewing what we gave up for him. I think Hayes may not be a supertalent but has great application. I didn't think he was as good a junior as Davis but his mental toughness which Reggi you so rightly pointed out Davis lacks, compensated for his lesser ability. Apparently Craig Davis was a very good player with a strong work ethic, what pity Nick didn't inherit this.

I'm not sure if I am missing sarcasm here... I think Davis has been good, I don't see any problem at all with losing a second pick for him...

It is a farce to suggest Davis was not worth a second round draft pick. It is even dumber to back that up with Collingwood would not have him back !!!

He left them, therefore why would they take him back even if he wanted to go. They were absolutely gutted he left and even more gutted they only got a second round pick for him.

He was a bargain.
