I'm glad we've seen threads like this, as to me it is a good way to look back on a sseason that has given me some unbelievable memories, both in terms of my personal adventures and some of the matches I've attended.

Highlights to me were

-The trip to Adelaide for the Crows match. Had fun chatting with the locals in the Crows Shed pre-match, then a spine-tingling game of football played in an awesome yet convivial atmosphere. It was only then they despite losing I really saw our team as a serious Premiership thread. A really awesome weekend, made better for me due to visiting Kangaroo Island on the days before. Meeting Greg Bell and the game who went over for Breakfast was also very enjoyable.

-The trip to Brisbane for the Lions match. An awesome match at the best arena in the AFL with great company. We chanted and sung ourselves hoarse, of course with the help of the Anti-Lions Cheer Squad (all resplendant in t-shirts with the letter "S" "Y" etc on the front). The rain fell, and we all turned into "Poncho Men". Classic stuff all around, including the pizza gathering at Fortitude Valley and clapping the players at the airport after the game. Was in tears of joy and disbelief after the match.

-The Port match. Met up the Cheer Squad travellers on the Saturday night for dinner, before going out. Met up everyone for breakie the next morning in North Adelaide, before undertaking the most cult day of the season. Arrived at Port Adelaide outer Army's BBQ armed with booze. Bumped into Bron as well, where I was given more alcohol. Walked into ground rather drunk.

Awesome match, epic atmosphere, great Swans cheer squad, and the best effort from the Swans this year. The second quarter was just magic. As close to footballing perfection as you can get from our young team of goers. The second half was pure torture. I was shaking at the end, such were my nerves.

Am epic day, made all the better by the company I was with. We ended up at Pasta Pasta on South Terrace. Yummy, yummy, yummy.

-vs Carlton in Melbourne. The day the Swans took over Princes Park. The concourse area in the Legends Stand was about 80-90% RED & WHITE. And the Cheer Squad the best of the season, with Peter Hatley and me with the drum going at it hammer and tong (of course with the help of Gemma, Robbie Ando etc etc).

Yes, there have been some bad days.
Port in Adelaide in July was the worst for me. I had to lug ALL the flagpoles across myself. And had to drag people out of the crowd to get the banner up. After the game when trudging sopping wet towards where I'd be picked up I proceded to have the bag the big flags were in break, so that they all fell in a puddle. A dreary boring slushfest, made worse by Wanganeen's diving, and the Port Adelaide supporters who were whinging at me.

The Hawthorn loss in August was the most gauling. Especially with so many of our club's heros there in attendance.

The Collingwod match sucked as well. Huge crowd, but virtually empty Cheer Squad. And everything sopping wet. Crap effort of bumbling wet-weather football. Stage-fright, yes I think so.

But overall this season has been one of unbelievable highlights. Stunning come from behind efforts in the last quarters, crowd records falling everywhere, existing players turning the corner, new stars emerging and blossoming under Roos.

There is a LOT still to be done. And the successes of this year will count to nothing come next March. But if you told me in April that I'd be experiencing what I have experienced this season, I'd have had you locked up. Especially after our 1-3 start after the Hawthorn match at the G.

My message to the players- you are the very lifeblood through which I breathe. To me my football club is EVERYTHING! Remember, to win a game of football you have to want to be there and enjoy the experience. Just go out and have fun, fellas! And let's go one better in 2004!

That reminded me of the Round 21 match - even though the match was one to forget.

The highlight for me was Willo's 50 metre penalty - when it was awarded the smirk he had on his face was priceless

I agree with Kirk getting right up after Pickett crunched him was definitely inspirational.

ETA: I can't spell properly, only realised now the errors I made.

You're right, it was too. I remember now, it was spectacular, but ultimately ineffective (except that it lives in our memories, of course).

i cant remember the schneider goal against brissie... can someone explain it to me please...
Swans v. Bris in Sydney rd.7. Schniedes gets the ball about 60m out directly in front... heads towards goal... big Mal M. comes directly at him from about 35m out... Schniedes tucks the ball under the arm and takes him on... darts around Mal in a half-circle, Mal may or may not have gotten a fingertip on him... Schniedes loads up... GOOAAALLLLLLL!!!!!

(If I'm completely wrong about this, please someone correct me. I put it down to age & substance abuse if so).

my fav would have to be the check side from schneids... to kick a check side that far is BLOODY impossible!!!
The one against Collingwood in Sydney? Reckon!

I thought it was closer than that... I don't think I could even kick 2/10 with a drop punt from 45m straight in front anymore.

If it was 30 metres...

There was this whole culture of kicking long bananas with kids playing junior footy in the eighties in Sydney... we hadn't been brought up with kicking on both sides, so your non-preferred side would take a while to develop... so you'd have kids who could kick a banana on their preferred side much longer and much more accuratley than they could kick anything on their non-preferrred side...

anyways, I was just being silly....

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

After reflecting on the PF, a promising sign for the future in Ablett's goal. Deserves something better than nog - maybe Cool Hand would suit...
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

- Our last Quarter vs Melbourne in Round 5. At 3/4 time all looked lost and the season well and trully gone. Step forward 22 players in Red and White who pile on 10 goals to win the match and kick start our season.

- Round 6 vs Collingwood. What a night, not many Swans supporters in the ground but we made ourselves known. Giving it to the Collingwood drones was fun, pointing my brother out as a Lions fan when they tried to throw back them making the Grand Final last season was even better.

- Optus Oval in Round 16. We went off that day, JF, Gemma, Peter H and myself proceeded to lead the Swans fans at the ground in taking over the ground. Waving JF's large flag at the end was great. After the match we went back to South Melbourne for the after match before taking over a shop pizza shop. It was a sign of things to come at the next match.

- Beating Brisbane in Brisbane. Sadly we couldn't do it again on the weekend, but it proved us to be premiership front runners and that the season wasn't a fulke after all.

- The Aftermatch after the Melbourne game. Got 31 people into a small pizza shop. This is now a tradition that will only grow.

- Pre match at the Cricketers Arm's was enjoyable this season hopefully next season we get more people showing up.

- The final against Port. I'm proud to say I was there
Once was, now elsewhere
