I mean, why would we want a triple-premiership winning player held in high regard by someone of Leigh Matthews' calibre?

And I agree - he was flogged by Plugger when Michael was 21 and had only played about 50 games and Plugger was the greatest full forward of all time at his peak.

And I agree with those who say he'd give us no run . . . I mean, clearly Brisbane has had none for the past three years.

And I agree - why would we want a strong-bodied, key position player at the peak of his career?

    No, I just agree
    Beautifully said!

I don't know if anyone said they had anything against him - just is he worth the price.

He's a lesser light in that premiership side - and there have been plenty of premiership players that have gone elsewhere and been very ordinary.

Moorcroft - Blumfield and Heffernan being recent examples - Warren McKenzie, Paul Abbott, Peter Curran being some fine examples of the past.

He's a fair player in a great side - you can definately over - state his worth. I'd take him - but wouldn't bother chasing him. I think that Brisbane have been able to extract the best from him.

Michael would be great to have he would give our younger KPP time to bulk up.

Playing Schuable and Michael in the same line up would be no problem, Schuable did have a great year but what would we do if he got injured?

IMO we should go for any of Bradshaw,Michael and Solomon.

So just because as a new member my first post isn't to agree with everyone, I'm a "gutless sniper" . . . Mmmm, I can already understand the level of high intellectual rigour and footballing nous that informs the board.

            Thanks for the welcome.

Either way - if you come in with a general slag off - or if you just decided to post under a different name.

              It was a gutless effort

OK - Sorry, I was new. I didn't know the rules. From here on in, I promise not to have an opinion of my own - let alone disagree with some members of the site - in assessing a players' value. Got it! Thanks for the explanation.

Mate, coming in on a rampage with that sort of attitude won't win you any friends. There's nothing wrong with having a differing opinion - but your post was dripping with sarcasm and lack of respect for other peoples' opinions. That's why Reggi quite rightly gave you a serve.

Present your views, fine. But do it in a civil manner.

I thought his views were quite well presented, quite funny and used an appropriate amount of sarcasm and certainly were quite civil. At least he didn't say anyone was talking crap or were full of @@@@.

And he ain't the best fullback in the business, not even close.

And we have a very sound defensive strategy that works both in theory and in practice. Bringing in a defender like Michael would change the whole way our defence plays. Why would we make room for him, when he would only be useful against a handful of strong forwards (that Schauble is already handling very well)?
How arrogant do you want to be? If all of our players do such a great job, why haven't we won the last 3 flags.

                        Agreed (no sarcasm intended).

And Reggi, Mal maybe a lesser light, but it doesn't mean he doesn't burn as bright as his team mates. Mal is a triple premiership Fullback, not some non-descript wingman who probably wouldn't survive a change of environment. I don't remember him missing a game since he got to Brisbane and I love players that aren't injury prone.

                        His B & F returns have been:

                        2001 8th
                        2002 5th
                        2003 10th

Not bad in a squad of that calibre in a position that usually doesn't attract accolades.

A question for Mal Michael's "Yes" school: what do you think would be a fair trade for him from our point of view??? and how can we manufacture the trade.

                          Our first pick + Kennelly???

But was Brisbane's run out of defence because of Michael or was it because of the other players in the defence who rebound on his strong work keeping the main forward quiet. Now its not a question weather he is good or not, its a question of weather we have a gap he can fill and sadly we don't as we already have Schauble there.

                                Most definitely NOT.

More like our first pick, plus perhaps Fosdike. To make up for a perceived uneven deal, we could give Brisbane what they really want - salary cap relief - by paying all of his salary... that's rare for traded players these days.

People seem to forget, Shane Woewodin was worth only pick #16 last year... Davis #23, Blumfield #30. The market value of draft picks is VERY inflated, but that should work to our advantage in a trade where we were targetting a player.
