You're probably right. Although it was still great administration by Saints. Who did we get from the Saints when we gave him back, or did we just delist him and Saints picked him up?

Might have been O'Brien? Not too sure.

Yup - Daniels for O'Brien - straight swap - can't remember how we got him in the first place - probably traded a #2 pick for him or something - he had 2 years at Sydney: 1994-95

So you'd trade the 462 goals Plugger kicked for us, for a high marking forward, who might kick 30 goals a year?

I really can't understand this argument of yours, Ruckman.
Some of my argument may have got lost over time, we do have a
habit of arguing at cross purposes. My arguement was that . . .

The best forward lines are those which include players with different styles/techniques/body shapes.

A strong leading forward (like Lockett) is a good start
A crumber to work at his feet (often a "resting" midfeilder)
A tall flanker to lead up the ground (Lewis, O'Loughlan),
Perhaps a goal sneak like O'Brien
And a true tall (someone 6ft5+in or an aerialist) to have a crack at the high ball.

Not all teams have all these options but they try.

I didn't question Locketts ability as a goal kicker, that's self evident. Nor did I suggest trading him. My remark was that Locketts presence made it difficult to have another tall (who tend to be less than lighting fast) in the forward line.

I do however hope to see Jason Ball spend some time in the forward line in 2004 because I think he would complement Barry Hall brilliantly and allow O'Loughlan to operate away from the goal square (hopefully he will also be fit)

While the Greg Williams deal may not have been the worst of all time (We did get Kappler and Minties) but it was an A+ bit of dodgyness. It smelt a lot like Kinnear had a bit to do with it, he did pop up at Carlton immediately after leaving the Swans.

I wonder if Geelong people felt the same about Hafey and Williams, Toohey & Bolton?

Or Stephen Doyle (if he also stays fit!).
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Yes absolutely your right, he is young, over 2 metres tall and can mark.

First round v. Carlton he was performing that exact function, presenting a very different problem for defenders and kicking goals.

A+ for dodginess.......that's mild, a complete stitch up more like it!!He was signed during the season and they tried to get Mitchell too but that came unstuck and Mitchell (I think) ended up at Eddiewood first. If anyone has any sympathy for Carlton......DONT. They were always corrupt in their dealings. When we nearly went to the wall before the bailout by Kimberley, Willesee, Sellars et al, they were sniffing around us wanting our best players if we folded and offering to play more games in Sydney.

Rot in Hell (or at least the cellar) Carlton......

mmm the only reason we didnt fold is unfortunately thanks to the pies they didnt want the Blues to have an unfair advantage so they supported South's move north.
