A disgrace to the number!!

Maybe we should send it to the Swans official website for their threadbare past players area (God knows it could do with some improved content!)
It was very interesting to note how some of the suggestions stretched the definition of "great" a little . . .
I mean loved John Ironmonger (especially after the SCG game verses Victoria) but not even I'd rate him as a great. On the other hand some great playes have worn #1 (Herbie Matthews, Paul Roos, Barry Hall).
#2 also has a proud history (Greg Williams, Wayne Schwass, Fred Goldsmith).
The history of #11 (Peter Bedford, Mark Browning, Stewie Maxfield, Roy Cazaly) seems at least as great as #14 (Bob Skilton, Paul Kelly). And seems to have been worn by at least four captains.
So I think it's the probable winner.
{I was a litle surprised that Browning and David Bolton can have worn the same jumper as they were teammates (perhaps Bolton took #11 when Mark retired).}
No 1 Herbie Matthews, Paul Roos, Barry Hall, John Ironmonger
No 2 Greg Williams, Wayne Schwass, Fred Goldsmith
No 3 Gerrard Healy, Dale Lewis
No 4 Keith Baskin & Tony Lockett, Merv Neagle
No 5 Reggi's Dad & John Rantall, Ian Roberts
No 6 Silvio Foschini & Andrew Dunkley
No 7 Gary Brice. Dennis Carroll,
No 8 Greg Smith & Darryn Creswell
No 10 Bob Pratt, Barry Mitchell
No 11 Peter Bedford, Mark Browning, Stewie Maxfield, Roy Cazaly, David Bolton, Darren Kappler,
No 12 Norm Goss, Neville Fields
No 13 Rod Carter,
No 14 Bob Skilton, Tony Franklin, Stephen Allender, Paul Kelly
No 15 Bernie Evans
No 16 Ricky Quade
No 19 Michael O'Loughlin
No 20 John Sudholz & Graham Teasdale
No 21 Tony Morwood, Leo Barry,
No 23 Ron Clegg
No 25 Barry Round
No 30 David Rhys-Jones & Mark Bayes
No 34 Max Kruse - Troy Luff
No 35 David Murphy
No 37 Adam Goodes
No 39 Warrick Capper & The Great McCarthy (really bad aussie movie) Adam Heuskes
No 41 Max Papley
No 43 Mark Browning (early days)
Interestingly it seems #34 and #39 have a sort of cult hero history.
Well if Adam Heuskes can get a mention allow me to suggest a few of my favourites other than Kel and Noddy.
1 Jamie Lawson
24 Derek Kickett
31 Brett Kirk
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver. The Scarlatti Tilt - Richard Brautigan
First time poster but life time supporter. Definately number 11 followed in a close second by number 14. Mainly because I was fortunate enough to be taken down to the Lake Oval many in my very early days, and my idol was and still is Peter Bedford. Could'nt that guy play.
You Just Do Not Get a Better Grand Final Win Than That
Welcome Dooloo. You're right there. Wheels Bedford was a legend. Still is a top bloke. Was a loyal MUA member when that @@@@@ Reith went after the Wharfies with his dobermen.

Originally posted by Foreign Legion To me, no. 14, and 10 would be the highest valued jumpers at the Swans.
Cheers.
Agreed.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.
If we are trying to establish an extensive list of numbers it would be good to add a few names/numbers...e.g. the players in the Team of The Century..and nominees
I think Stevie Wright was No 26
Whilst not in champion status...if I rack my brain I think the following might be true
13 - Graham Dempster...father of current player Sean
33 - Greg Lambert, Terry Thripp
I wouldnt mind if we could sort out Max Papley...I think he was 11..and we have had him listed at 11 and 41
And David Ackerely...I think he was listed somewhere as 31...I have a vague memory of him as No 9...though I wouldnt put any money on it
10 was John Roberts for a while...I remember him as a high flying full forward who had lots of photos of his marks being compared to Bob Pratt
I have a memory of 8 as being Stevie Wrights brother for a while but cant remember his first name
Other players that would be nice to add to this list would be the Morwood Brothers (Paul and Shane), the Danihers (Tony - 2?),
other players who have been characters or famous for any reason - John Pitura, Whale Roberts, Francis Jackson

The difference being that any quips about soccer are in reference to the topic at hand and I keep any comments on politics out of my posts on the Main board. What does Bedford being a member of the MUA during the waterfront dispute have to do with his Playing number?????

Hi yourself and welcome,
I feel the same way about #20, Teasedale was my absolute hero when I was at school.
It almost killed me when he transferred to bloody Collingwood, still can't stand the maggots.
But many, many years later I rocked up to preseason at North Shore in Sydney and there was this huge bloke working out with boxing pads and I thought he looked a likely sort . . . . turns out it was Graham Teasesale.

Same - I remember going to the Lake Oval when I was 9-10 and everyone yelling 'Teaser'!!!
