What is the Swans most famous number?

    #14
Was worn by Paul Kelly and Bobby Skilton so it probably rates as our most famous number.

But who else has worn it?

Who wore #37 before Adam Goodes?

Has number #39 been put into unofficial retirement?

Hopefully this discussion can fill in another week till the 2004 pre-season begins!

The fact that Scott McGlone wore it last year suggests not.

Without a doubt the Number 14 goes down as our greatest number. However they are others that hold special meanings.

Does anyone know of a definative list of Swans numbers and the players that played in them?

Or should we try to compile one from memory?

Actually what I'd realy love is to find a list of Swans numbers and the players that played in them?

                      Ok Here goes

This is not a definitive list, as I don't know the nimbers of some of the greats such as Freddie Goldsmith, Herb Matthews etc but from my memory and own personal bias, the most famous numbers of the club are. Feel free to add your own

No 2 Greg Williams & Wayne Schwass
                      No 3 Gerrard Healy
No 4 Keith Baskin & Tony Lockett
                      No 5 Reggi's Dad & John Rantall
No 6 Silvio Foschini & Andrew Dunkley
                      No 7 Gary Brice.
No 8 Greg Smith & Darryn Creswell
                      No 10 Bob Pratt
No 11 Peter Bedford (superstar) Mark Browning & Stewie Maxfield
                      No 12 Norm Goss
No 14 Bob Skilton, Tony Franklin, Stephen Allender, Paul Kelly
                      No 16 Ricky Quade
                      No 19 Michael O'Loughlin
No 20 John Sudholz & Graham Teasdale
                      No 21 Tony Morwood
                      No 25 Barry Round
                      No 30 David Rhys-Jones & Mark Bayes
No 39 Warrick Capper & The Great McCarthy (really bad aussie movie)
                      No 41 Max Papley
No 43 Mark Browning (early days)

To my way of thinking we have two numbers that should be revered and that is number 11 and 14.

14 speaks for itself, but 11 was worn by an absolute legend in Peter Bedford, a player who is unlucky to not be in the TOTC in Mark Browning, and the current captain. Pretty good arguement for making it a revered number in the club.

Number 11 is looking very good. I am told by P46's old man who is an absolute expert on Max Papley, that he wore number 11 for all of his career, played 59 games, won the best and fairest in 1966 and was without doubt the most gifted player ever to play for the club. Bob Skilton also shares the same opinion.

Number 3 was also carried by Brian McGowan who was second rover to Skilton for some time and was indeed a very good player.

You forgot the first full back ever to win a Brownlow, the great Fred Goldsmith who wore number 2.
