    I'm sick of this excuse.

Why is it that Collingwood can do a deal so they play Port in Adelaide, but we can't?? They seem to be able to influence their away games... they manage to make sure they get 7 away games in Victoria, so why can't Sydney?

Does anyone seriously believe that the Swans have ABSOLUTELY NO SAY in where they play their away games?

Like it or not Collingwood will get a lot more paying punters through the turnstiles that the Swans do. And as we know $$$ talks.

The AFL is happy to schedule 7 Collingwood away games in Melbourne knowing they will get 60,000 to them.

Even Eddie sees the away match in Sydney as a "favour" to the Swans and let's face it it did rescue the bottom line last year.

As I said, I'm sick of the excuse.

Sydney's effect on the broadcast deal - yes, that one that keeps AFL afloat - gives us a fair amount of bargaining power.

The club seemingly chooses not to use it.

But its all swings and roundabouts, the whole comp is contrived and every club gets advantages over others, be it fixturing, guaranteed blockbusters, AFL handouts or salary cap allowance.

The Swans also get 2 guaranteed HOME blockbusters against Collingwood and Essendon. I'm sure Port or Freo would love this.

Swans fans in Melbourne will comtinue to be dudded while the AFL continues to prop up the economic basket cases, and thus miss the North Melbourne and Footscray away games. It was good enough for the Roys to go down the gurgler - those two should go back to the VFL, the national comp is too big for either of them, both are suburban clubs trying to survive against big boys. You will them have 14 teams, 26 rounds and a fair comp.
Also 8 games a year with the Swans in Melbourne. (counting sleepy hollow).

So Hawthorn and The Bulldogs have 45,500 members between them but only 24,000 went to last weeks match from memory.

The Hawks with 29000 of those must have a lot of doggy and cats supporters passionate and paid up as was rumoured a while back. Instead of paying the local council for their regos they pay up as Hawks members.

                How exactly?

'Well if you don't give us away games where we want them we'll quit the comp and then where'll you be' - ???

The Canberra game has long been debated, but I'm happy with any away game which we play where the home team travels further than we do.

Very disappointed with Sydney figures. After a good year last year, we are playing a good brand of football, exciting young team etc etc I really thought we would be high twenties.

Radio 1116SEN has a Swans Membership day on Thursday and as we have not even played our first game yet southern ,membership should jump a bit in the next week and a half.

I honestly wonder why people continue to support the Swans when the club continues with this conspiracy to shaft them at every possible opportunity.

Constantly offering interstate teams home games in an attempt to remove all games from Melbourne. If this is not enough they have the cheek to appoint a new Melbourne liason who we all know is just a pawn to appease the masses whilst secretly plotting to remove games, shut down after match functions and increase mebership fees !

                        Oh piss off.

Mate - quit the sarcastic crap, and answer this... do you honestly believe that the Swans are doing everything in their power to get more games in Melbourne?

You've always been first in to attack the Melbourne fans here who simply want to see their team a bit more. Do you have a problem with their being a second supporter base? Is that it?

I don't know mate. How do Collingwood get everything they want? Why can't we do it, whatever it is?

I'm NOT happy with the Canberra game. First, despite what happened on the weekend, the 'Roos still have a 70% winning record there. No real advantage there. It deprives Melbourne supporters of another game. It is the single biggest reason why we only get 5 games in Victoria. And for what? So the Kangas can get 14,000 to Manuka, so that they look good? Stuff the 'Roos.

Charlie who said the Swans aren't getting what they want from there away games? to this point only you have and your hardly the club. I know you think your getting ripped off but like it or not Melbourne is a secondary surpporter base. You just have to move past it.

It's not just that Collingwood are able to choose where they play their away games, it's that every other team in Melbourne wants to play a home game against them. Sure, the Swans may have a few thousand Melbourne members, maybe even 15,000 or so supporters but that pales into insignificance compared to the 40,000 paid up members that the Pies can boast, most of whom will live in Melbourne.

I do think that whilst there is only one team playing in Sydney it is important that Sydney buys home games from other teams to be played in Sydney when possible, even if this results in Sydney only playing a handful of games in Melbourne each year. If we are to stop this we need to go back to having at least two home and away games in Sydney per year that don't involve Sydney just to keep the footy around... I know this was a failed experiment in the past (I recall going to a pretty poorly attended game like this a few years back... but then again, I went to some Swans games that had about the same attendance too!) but doing it for one or two seasons isn't really showing a long term commitment... when I was a junior footballer in the eighties I used to receive two free tickets to EVERY Sydney home game. why can't the AFL/NSW AFL invest their money in doing this again- give the kids a bundle of tickets to come along to the games that don't involve Sydney... there are enough struggling clubs to try this...
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
