Agreed, though that should be the end of it as far as the media is concerned but it's gotta be hard not to go on with it, I know I would. We were in a similar situation last year with Bazza and a few other issues. It's gotta get to you after a while.
Not to mention Carey taking that 'mark' 10 rows into the stand...

I don't really care all that much.

Just don't think he should be coming out and saying anything about the umpires.

Just my personal belief that he should be able to rise above making any sort of comment, whether he was asked directly or not.
He can call them, or do whatever he does privately.

Add to that it looks like he is making excuses for the loss

The simple fact is that we didn't play well enough to win.
I wouldn't want the team thinking we lost because we were 'robbed' by the umpires.
I would wqant them to know that they have to play better than they did.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

As for Roosy 'making a call'
          Well, do that Roosy.
Make 2 calls. 3, 5 10, whatever makes you feel better, but stop whinging to the media.
          Nobody likes a sore loser.
I don't think Roosy should be trying to deflect what was a poor three quarters by the Swans. He should be more concerned with ensuring the team plays well enough to cover suspect (okay, bleeding obvious in this case) calls. Instead of highlighting umpiring problems, point out what problems the Swans during the game, Roosy would (should) have more impact there than with the Umpires. Better still show the team how young Mr Bevan played, inspiring stuff.

What about doing both? His job is to represent the team as well as coach them.

I'd be interested to know what mood the players were in at the after match function. If they were relaxed and happy I'd be surprised (and disturbed) as they were genuinely embarassed after the Cats game - and they won that!

Can't comment on that one, but they were VERY quiet on the plane back to Sydney.

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

Fair call, but how many errors did the team make in comparisson to the umpires? I maybe way out of line here, but I am curious.

Collectively, the team came within 10 points. Collectively, the umpires cost us at least three goals. There may be more but let's just count the unallowed goal to Goodes when he bumped his opponent out of the way on the way to the mark in the goal square. And the thrown to Lloyd. And the Bolton mark paid to Solomon. So our mistakes put us 10 points down. The umpires put Essendon 18 points up. That's grounds to complain.

It looks like Roos is having second thoughts about raising the issue.

"Roos was also concerned about several umpiring decisions, but might not ring umpiring director Jeff Gieschen this week.

Roos wouldn't detail the dubious umpiring calls, but said immediately after the game he would be making a phone call during the week.

"It's probably a waste of time ? what can they do," he said yesterday. "I think I'll save the STD call."

                      No, Roosy, not good enough.

We're all on here, fuming. We're pissed off. 'Bitter' is probably a fair description too. I left the MCG wondering what the point of watching football is, if my team is going to be given a fair chance to win a game.

But we can't do much, except rave on 'White Line Fever' or SEN. We can argue with the drones on Bigfooty too, but that's like talking to a brick wall.

You, however, can take your complaint directly to the source of the farce.

Whether it works or not, don't let them think that it was acceptable. It must never happen again.

                        Arghh, tell me about it!!

I want Roos to complain because I can't!!

                          Hmmmmm,

I suspect he spent a fair deal of energy last year on similar issues re. Hall and others and is starting to question whether it is worth spending more time and energy.

That said I would hope that he would, geez there's been enough in the mass media, best to formalise it even if that speed dial button to Geisch is getting a little worn out

One last one from me, that Lov-Mum throw really got me, I'm pretty sure the umpie was blindsided which is why he didn't see the free BUT it doesn't stop 'em guessing when they can't see re. LRT's ping for a throw that wasn't that cost us a goal in the last Q against the Dee's last week. Same story, ump was on the blind side but paid on what he guessed was there anyway.

tonight's ten news showed Roos being questioned again about the umpiring issues. His reply was along the lines of it was $20K well spent.

They touched on it briefy on On The Couch and will go back to it before 9.30 to review a few particualr cases.

Definately not good enough. The STD call he made when Bazza didnt receive any frees last year has proved valuable. Even if this doesnt directly affect the umpiring like $20K does, I hope that umpire Meredith gets put to the sword (figuratively speaking, of course)..
