A truly national comp would have a (heavily) koori-based side operating out of Darwin, as well as a Tassie unit. The former would be some time away I'd imagine. But what a side that' d be .. ! Phwoaar, skills.

The Western Bulldogs will surely be the team from Homebush come 2010 or thereabouts.

      ...and the Coolangatta Kangaroos!

Would probably never lose a game in Darwin, but it would take them 15 years before they won a game in Melbourne.

the afl thinks nsw supporters are too warm weathered..... well victorians do at least..

hardly gonna give another team to a state that only comes out when the team is winning and is not there... i.e 1993 when the team is bad.

thats my guess at the afls thinking...its not my own...

i would think at least two vic teams need to relocate or go and that leaves two spots...maybe nsw, qld and tas would compete.... or maybe a third south australian team... they support both teams well espeically the crows

why relocate ? Why not a 14 team comp (through mergers or closures) where every team plays home and away. If we lose 2 vic teams, this still leaves 8

Hey this gives our Melbourne fans 8 games a year

God forbid the Pies would have to travel 6 times a year

I think the Kangaroos and Hawthorn should just get on with it, bite the bullet and move to Canberra and Tassie asap and become the Canberra Kangaroos and Tassie Hawks.

I think it's vital for the game that a team be established in the northern end of the country. I think Darwin might be too small in many ways to sustain an AFL team long term. A team based in Cairns however called - and I'm just throwing this up -the eg. Top End Turtles , Cairns Crocs or Koalas, that plays a number of their mid winter night games in Darwin would just go from strength to strength.

If the Cairns based club called itself the Top End Turtles (or something) and recruit where possible NT boys (as Roos is now doing with the NSW developed ) it would quickly win over the Darwin locals and of course it could establish a Darwin office to have a permanent presence for media, membership and merchandise etc.

The Gold Coast is definitely worth trying again especially if the rugby league gives them a team. The coast is now huge and the distance between Brisbane and the Coast less all the time. Importantly, there's now a train from Brisbane to the Gold Coast and Brissie AFL fans can travel in comfort to the game which they couldn't in the days of the marsupials. Sooner or later the AFL will need a presence there!

Hardly have thought the Hawks would be the club to move. They've been financially strong over the past few years, no ?

Thought the Dogs would be best to relocate.

yeh on the afl footy show the hawks president said how strong they are off field. They make a fair bit from playing tassie tho, you should see how many hawks supporters suddenly emerge because they play here.

The only problem with relocation of say the bulldogs is they are still a struggling club, unless the afl wants to pour money into them non stop it will still be the same poor club.

Unless a smaller ground can be found out west i cannot see this ever being commercially viable (in my life time !)

Considering we only drew around 30k out at the white elephant last time how many people do you think would go week in week out to see a relocated Dogs/North ?. Remember we have around 25,000 paid up members who it costs nothing (extra) to go !

The ground is way too big (and expensive) in Sydney to support week in week out football. As displayed by us and the Canterbury Bulldogs (RL).

So IMHO unless the AFL are willing to underwrite ground costs for an open ended amount of time (which i doubt) it wont happen. Again, remember North and Dogs pulled out of original deal when they looked at ground costs, and that was just a couple of games each.

NB: If any of the words above, when used in conjuction with a thesaurus, have any relationship to accounting terms it is entirely unintentional !!!!

I said Hawks to Tassie because the Victorian clubs and the AFL can't keep waiting and hoping one year to the next for one of them to go under.

How many years have we endured the uncertainty down there for now?

Victorians clubs needs to be proactive to sure up their future. Hawks are financial this year ,(of course I always believe Club Presidents)...what about 2,4,6 years from now?

Will everyone still be waiting and hoping then for Melbourne and the Bulldogs to die so that they might get a bigger slice of the pie!
