he was quickly becoming one of my favourites in 2002, the last year and a half have been atrocious for him, however, injury-wise

itll be interesting to see the rotations if and when bevan and fixter are in the same side as well as schneider and buchanan

    BP through the middle
    FP through the middle

packed with pace, packed with guts, packed with skill!
As good as Fixter was in 2002, its now 2004 and in just over 20 months has only played at best 2 games in the Canberra league from his latest comeback from injury. Now I don't intend this as a "he can't play" post, but what form has he shown in those two matches that suggest that he will make his senior comeback anytime in the next month???? Why rush him back when he has played very football???

Let him get match fitness and confidence back in the Canberra League and maybe look at him getting a senior call up late in the season. At the moment, with Paul Bevan doing so well, there isn't a pressing need to have Fixter in the side other than some people think his form 2 years ago is enough to warrent a senior call up. I have no doubt Fixter can get back to his best, but lets not rush him into it, let him build up slowly and hopefully we will get the benefit next season.

robbie, i was stating fixter as an IN, for the game in 3 weeks, pure speculation and all that , but that would be 5 weeks in the reserves for him by then

i do agree that it shouldnt be rushed, and depending on the fitness of schneider and buchanan, he could provide a useful option for FP

i was more or less stating a best 22 for us, later on in the season, long-term injuries considered

I doubt he is in the Best 22 at the moment because of the time out of the game. I think he plays a role that is already filled in the side by Bevan. As a FP I don't think he'll be anything like Schneider and Buchanan.

I suggested earlier in the week that a FP may be a way to bring Fixter back into the team. It may only have been one game, but he did a good job as a second forward to O'Keefe in that match against the Kangas at the end of 2002. It wouldn't make sense if either Schneider or Buchanan were available, but at the moment they are not.

the first couple games back Fixter has been treated with the softly softly approach and rotated off the bench. Last weeks game was in Canberra so I can't comment on it, however the report from the Official Swans site was possitive, although not glowing.

quoted from the Reserves report link here http://sydneyswans.com.au/default.as...b&spg=reserves

"Joining them was fixter, who got through his third game back from injury, picking up the tempo of his game when it was needed."

My opinion is that he should be right to be elevated after a couple more games. During the Reserves games He has shown spells of what we have previously seen. It is obvious (like it was with Nicks) that he is a better player than most in the reserves and by this I mean the opposition. If he was up against a fit Schneider or Buchanan, I'm not sure what the call would be. I'd probably want to see a bit more of him before I had to make that call.

The on field time I have seen, he wasn't shying away from a contest or afraid to put his body on the line. To me that indicates he thinks he's 100% ok. His mindset is good and his body seems to be holding up to the task.

The Reserves also have a bye this weekend, I'm not sure how this will effect his return, hopefully it wont hinder it.

Another option would be to bring Fixter back as the BP and put Bevan forward in the FP. His hardness at the ball will add another dimension to the forward line.

yeh but how did he get to 150 games... i dont think hes gone close to what he could be and now hes a fair way into his career if he plays at least 200 games he is 3/4 in

Though I think fitness is more critical in the back half - to provide running rebound - than it is in the forward pocket.

I also reckon that the more stability you have in the back line the better and Bevan has been a constant there this season. Would be a big move to take him out and stick in a guy who hasn't played senior footy nearly two years.

How could you have Bevan on the bench. Would put him in before Irish who is playing like an old moll right now.

Why is it that people think our game against Carlton is a shoe in, even with close to our best. Carlton are far from the worst team, and who can forget the fright last year.

as long as its not too cocky who cares?? may as well be confident of a win against a side celebrating winning 2 in a row for the first time since 2001
