I think he's a very good defender. Would comfortably slot into our back line.
Could free up Mathews, Kennelly or Bevan to go into the midfield.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Originally posted by Charlie Ok, let's be realistic about the value of draft picks.
Mark McVeigh is much more likely to give us good value than, say, a pick in the high twenties/low thirties. Draft picks are radically over-valued. People tend to underestimate how much 'value-adding' can happen when a bloke has played five years of footy under a great coach with a great leadership group.
If we snaffled the same deal as we did with Davis, straight swap of a 2nd round draft pick, it's worth doing. Even if he adds nothing more than a bit of flexibility with Crouchy.
Agree with that. If we finished, say, 8th this year, and Hawthorn get a priority pick, we would get picks 10, 26, 42...... I think pick 26 would be a fair trade-off for us, but Im not sure what the Bombers would think. I think the fact that they wanted to re-sign him meant that they do really value him. Would they want more than a second round pick from us?
Originally posted by sharpie The other thing is, if Fosdike really is on the outer, then is he fair game for a swap? Essendon lack speed big time in their midfield. Fosdike's best attribute at the moment is his speed. If we were to make such a trade, I would expect a draft pick (2nd or 3rd round) packaged with McVeigh for Fosdike. Note that I am only suggesting something. In reality, I would prefer not to lose Fosdike.
2nd round draft pick for McVeigh would be nice, a la Nick Davis.
They'd probably look at one of our midfielders, but I doubt they'd go for Fozzy. They need some pace in the middle, and Fozzie has endurance, not speed. We dont have any speedy guys to give up, but I'd rather we offer Ablett with a draft pick.

Davis is clearly better than Mc Veigh. Paying a similar bounty (i.e. a 2nd round pick) for McVeigh would be like paying a ransom.
Collingwood wanted a 1st round pick, remember? We refused, and in the end the Pies gave in because they didnt want to come up empty handed
I dont think it will be the same for McVeigh, because he isnt 1st round draft pick material. We offer a 3rd round, Bombers ask for 2nd round, and in the end, we give in. Im happy with that.
we definitely have the upper hand here as mcveigh wants to come to us and we're not desparate to get him
it would be great if we could get him for a 3rd round pick and see the bombers get screwed on a trade for once, although i could live with trading our mid to low 2nd round pick
am I the only one that thought he looked fashion model good looking?
I like Mark and would take him for a 2nd round pick quickly. Not in Nicky D's league at all, but you have to keep in mind we really screwed the colliwobble puppy with the Nicky D trade deal.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
A swap for our 2nd round pick would be fine by me.
I would love to see Kennelly moved to a wing, and Willo to a back flank. Having McVeigh to hold down a back-pocket permanently might be great, instead of Mathews,Bevan and Crouch rotating through there.

I was hoping Tadhg would have been on the wing this year but I worry about Willo on a back flank. He has been playing very well on the ball this year after a slowish startand his height would be exploited in the backline in my opinion.I would keep him in the midfield and rotate him more if necessary.
you're not the only one Stella and his little bro scrubs up well off the field too
I think he'd be a good pick up. I'm not sure about the soft comments. I seem to remember hurling abuse at him quite often ragrding the hardness at which he attacks to ball and the player who was holding it at the time.
If his heart says Sydney, with his skills, it could be a perfect match.
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
We need
Love and peace

St Kilda paid a 39th pick or some thing for Brent Guera who is a defensive midfielder. That is probably about the market place for a small defensive player. We should not pay anything more for McVeigh. Brent Guera did kick 7 goals in a recent game too.
I would love to see Mark McVeigh in Swans colours next year. A likely trade that we would see would be a player swap and perhaps an exchange of draft picks. We have drafted a lot of young players lately and trading one who wants to go to Melbourne could work out well for both sides. While it's true that we have a lot of good young players, and we would like to keep them, the realities of football indicate that it's difficult to hold on to all of them. If we can keep all the good kids and give those not doing so well a chance to succeed elsewhere, then everyone should win.

MCVEIGH IS A HACK! anything higher than 3rd round would be ridiculous!
he is as hard at the football as damien softwick is, he seems to get real tough once his opponent has marked the ball... no more!
PSD i say, if not, is he too old for the rookie draft?
the only upside of acquiring mcveigh would be that we are one short of the rams 98 draft picks; being davis, c. bolton, mcveigh and HAYES! if one more of his old team mates joins the swans, it might just sway hayes to come at the end of next season. then we can delist mcveigh...
