Agree totally!! You are at the game to watch the game, not talk about stuff outside of the game when the game is on and the atmosphere is tense! That supporter deserved to be "sooshed" cause those type of "supporters" **** me to tears!

You got that right. We were in front of the O'Reilly before (actually, a bit to the side) and got sick of sitting surrounded by oppostion supporters and fans that just would not cheer - Bay 5 from memory (although there were a couple of notable - LOUD - exceptions!). I'm loving 29 though, close to the bar, Kransky rolls and the dunny. What more could any self respecting supporter want!

Sure people complain about them not being passionate enough now, but who on earth starts out as passionate as you are 10 years down the track. No-one.
This is very true. Hopely those who have been given a taste of things in these big matches will become converted into taking memberships out and becoming fully fledged commited supporters. As I know was the case with Seth after the Brisbane final last year. (That right mate?)

But you are still going to get these people that state at those who are passinate about the team as if they are in some way simple or pathetic. "Look at at those morons. Look how they are yelling and screaming. Get a life, it is only a game!"

These people making matches in Sydney an outright pain at times. And you pretty much only get them in Sydney too. (Even in Brisbane they seem to be heaps more into the game and identying with the Lions, and the culture of being a barracker, than here.)

But that is the nature of the beast. There are just so many people with little idea of sport in this city.

But Sydney also has by far the biggest growth potential of any supporter base. Even Brisbane pales into insignificance; they are pretty much getting full houses as is.

I think I have this sussed now. Like Chubby left bay 5, I got out of bay 6 to escape the yuppies. A mass migration of all fully paid up fanatic supporters currently sitting in Bays 4-18 to Bays 22-31 or the members reserve is definitely indicated. (yeah Jules, I included the CS bay for you!) That way, those who like it quiet, the not so committed and theatregoers can enjoy themselves as they see fit and the ?barrackers? can go at it to till their lungs burst. Everyone will be happy!

Myself and a few others in the CS (JF, Charlie and co) have running battles with some older ladies in the Melbourne CS, who always tell us to either stop making as much nosie as we do or shut up altogether. As always we reply with "why join a Cheer Squad in the first place if you don't want to CHEER in a CHEER Squad???

Also at the Demons match in Round 5, the Cheer Squad was told by the Ground manager to stop abusing the umpires because the effects mike was positioned in front of us.
                      Once was, now elsewhere

We have recently moved to bay 29 concourse this year after 5 years in front of the O'Reilly stand. Although all the people around us had no idea iof who I am, I was on my feet from the first home game. I am getting to know most of them now (you ROCK Bay 29!). I barrack very loudly and get in on every chant that goes up. I have never had a complaint with what I say, as I never to swear. One of my favourite things about the AFL is that you can barrack as hard as you want, and as long as it's not offensive or stupid, everyone leaves you alone. The kids around us love the chants, and get right into it if they know someone will be there backing up.

I love the Swans and the louder the better. If I cop a dirty look, it's usually from someone I have never seen before, so stuff 'em! I've paid my money!!
too right chubmuff! Im in Bay 28 this year, and the supporters are great. We've got a bunch of teenage boys next to us who like to get chants going and are always full of noise as well. They also like to pick out injured players in the stands behind us and scream our their names for a hello wave. "SAAADDDDDOOOOOOOO!!!!!" LOL

on the subject of being told off for barracking too loud, it has never happened to me, but, we were once told to move our flag as it was covering some advertising even worse, it was QBE advertising and we were covering about 1/3 of a panel, which has about 10 identical panels next to it.

Now, maybe i'm a terrible person, but i will scream my head off about stuff that goes on at the ground, and i have been known to do my fair share of swearing. if there are young kids nearby i really try not to, but i'm sure i've slipped up more than once. of course i don't want some kid turning around saying "mum which number is d!#khead? i think he 's that guy's favourite player" but in the heat of the moment.....

however, especially in night games, if you're bringing your kids into an area of the ground where alcohol is being consumed, can you reasonably expect them not to hear profanity?

I hate being disturbed when I'm watching a game on the TV. I'm often not a nice person to be around, especially when the game is very close. For some reason it just feels so much worse when you are watching on TV.

Hence I'm very nervous about watching the footy on the box with non footy people. I just don't do it.

Would rather be at the ground interstate in any case. Then you can make your own fun. And eat lots of pizza and pasta!

This is true for sure - I'm talking about the really offensive stuff. We had some St Kilda supporters near us a few weeks ago - two girls - who were going a bit over the top. We had a running battle with them for trhe rest of the game (needless to say we had the last laugh!).

As most of you, I'm usually fixed on the game as well.

Occasionally I have sat upstairs at the Noble and each time I've managed to find myself _somewhere_ in front of an 'older' lady who spends the game bagging out Leo Barry very loudy.

                                "OH, LEO!"

I respond by cheering with gusto when he clears the ball.

Would have loved to have sat near her during the 'Aints match...
