(Yes, I got home safe and sound and beside the stress of the Royal Parade carpark that meant that travelling from one end of Parkville took longer than from Seymour to Campbellfield! it was awesome awesome trips. Loads of intelligent debate about fotball and other things with Beaussie and Peter H both on the way there and back, one of the most exhilarating matches I've experienced in yonks, the atmosphere of a European soccer match in the Legends Stand (sadly marred by 4 Carlton wankers attacking one defenseless Swans supporter in front of them, an awesome pizza get-together with Swans fans from Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong and Hobart (Simon, you legend!), a 1 hour binge shopping spree at the Vic Markets where Brycey bought a new Swans jacket, cap and pair of shoes, even scoring a hip hop Swans beanie in the process, which I scored a new Swans scarf for $7 !!!!! and a new belt!

An awesome trip, and considering we had 4 in the car, very very cheap for all of us as well.

I'm definitely carring it to Victoria again. It is really only 8.5 hours from CBD to CBD when you take the Tulla and Western Ring Rd and the M5. We did it in 9.5, with a one hour food and kick-to-kick stop at Holbrook.

I think the Sydney-based fans (of which there were many at Carlton) realise what we are dealing with in our Melbourne-based supporters. They as as passionate as ever, and as loyal as any. Those who took the gamble in 82 would be mighty proud of them.

PS:-Thank God the @@@@ Blues will be playing at the Dome next season. The ground and surrounding area is ill equipped to cope with crowds of 26000. And security, the less said about them the better!

Seriously, just awesome. Nobody talking abut their work, everyone glued to the action. I think we need a supporter relocation programme, so we can get some more mungrel into the SCG crowds again.

Melbourne is just so different. I was musing about wearing my Swans scarf when I went out later that Saturday night. People just came up to me congratulating me about our win. In Sydney I'd be seen as a complete freak for wearing my scarf down the street 7 hours after the game finished.

A trip to footballing Mecca sure replenishes one's confidence in showing my allegiance to team.

PS:- I did pay tribute to my fellow NSW compatriots at PapaGinos in Lygon St by ordering a delightfully fruity class of Chardonnay. An away match mock cult has been started!

I don't agree. I'll miss Optus despite the fact it is a ****-hole of the highest order considering the other grounds we get to visit during the season. No where else in Melbourne will we be able to use a grounds ticketing set up to get all our supporters sitting and standing in the one area, so the Cheer Squad can use them to make the amount of noise we have made at Optus yesterday.

Give our supporters the MCG and Telstra Dome and they all will find their favouite places to sit and more offen than not the CS will end up cut off from them and unable to make any difference in the level of support we as a supporter base make at Optus.

As for how I find Optus, well as I said before it is a ****-hole. The stair-well behind the CS, is too small for people to move in and out of the seating areas on mass, like at half-time and full-time. Plus when people are forced to stand at the top on the stairs, getting though leads to a push and shove. For a stand build in 1996 it is not safe and if Carlton aren't careful, with their lack of security, you could just well end up with an Ibrox on your hands when 66 fans died going down a flight of stairs that was too small for the amount of people using it.

Don't get too carried away. I wore my Swans scarf out last night and had about a dozen people in the city come up to ask the result of the game - or to congratulate us on the win. The only tricky moment was when a woman came up from behind to say I had about 50 Pies fans who were visiting Sydney walking right behind me. I was feeling brave enough to ask if Collingwood was still playing football as I hadn't heard anything about them since we beat them? After they laughed I said they should be buying me drinks as we'd just beaten the Blues for goodness sake. A Swans scarf isn't a rare sight in Sydney.
