    The road to 4th.

These are the bandwagons we've got to get on this weekend, to ease our way into 4th by years end:

Collingwood vs Geelong - Go pies. Looking hot at the moment.

Richmond vs Essendon - God help us, but up the tiges!

Fremantle vs Kangaroos - Roos in great form, but can they travel ? Go Roos

Brisbane Lions vs Western Bulldogs - Find something dogs. Or at least dont give them a % boost.

Melbourne vs St Kilda - Saints need to rebound, and big time to knock some % off the D's.

Port Adelaide vs Carlton - Blues. Enermies one week, friends the next.

    Big weekend.

Does anyone think Carlton and WC can make the finals, two games out of the 8? I dont.

The top 4 teams sit two games clear of 5th. I also dont think that that will change, barring some huge drop in form.

I think, with our run home, 5th or 6th will be a pretty good effort.

What a depressing bunch of replies that was.

Simple facts are if Saints beat Melbourne, and we beat Adelaide - both of which expected on ladder position - then we will be one game off 4th spot, and we play Melbourne latter in the year which gives us a chance to bridge that gap, even if all other games are equal.

Percentage I hear you say, well the D's just drop 8 % in that one game, so any other good schelacing on them or by us, sees that one covered.

You might as well finish last, if you arent going to make top 4 these days.

I'm on your side Barry. If we win 6 of the last eight games I reckon we'll be about the only team to do so. Hard to pick Pies/Cats. Do Tiges get Richo back? (We know how well he plays when he's back fresh!) Who can pick Aints/Dees? and if Carlton play the same game against Port they could win that. There are no easy games this year so let's just see how it shakes out. But I'm still hoping for top 4.

My ideal scenario would be somehow miraculously finishing 4th and getting 1st shot at the sainters. They have shown they fall away against tough opposition with finals experience. I think we can do them again if we get the chance.

Otherwise, and much more likely, I see us getting 5th spot with a home match against Essendon in week 1 of the finals. Tough assignment, but definitely winnable.

But, it is far too far away to start worrying about, so much can change between now and when I wake up tomorrow morning, so I'll stop. All I want is for us to keep winning, the rest will take care of themselves.

We'd have to win 6 of the last 8.

We'd need Melb to win only 3 - which makes our game against them critical, plus also their game against Carlton.

Geelong could potentially win 6-7 of their last 8.

Can't see Fremantle winning any more than 5 at the most.

Essendon could do anything, but could still win 4-5 games or even 6 if they beat us.

Given our form all our games will be tough, but the biggest problems to getting 6 will be the Freo, Brisbane, Geelong and Melbourne games.

BTW - I expect Brisbane and St Kilda to win at least 6 of their last games, and possibly Port too.

Sharpie - do you really think the Aints will finish on top of the ladder??

Their remaining games are Blues, Tigers, Bombers, Geelong, Adelaide, Roos, Lions and Freo.

Either the Dees or Aints will drop back this weekend. But we have to hope that some of the back runners (Pies. Blues, Dogs, etc) beat some of the teams in the eight over the next few weeks. That seems likely. And just about all our remaining games are 8 point games.

Might be positive, but hardly realistic.

I can see them winning maybe 6 of them, unless their form has completely disappeared (BTW - not Blues, but Melbourne).

Oops, I was trying to keep the list in my head between fixture card and keyboard. But the Dees are the harder call. Until very recently I thought the Dees were playing the more reliably good footy of any team in the competition. But after the break there seems to be a bit of readjustment all round.

I'd guess the Saints, on current form, will win 4 of their last 8 games.

                            Only 4?

                            I would say:

Should win: Richmond, Adelaide, 'Roos, Essendon, Fremantle

                            Might win: Melbourne

                            Might lose: Geelong

                            Should lose: Brisbane

After watching bits of the Port Saints game this afternoon, I think it's very hard to predict what St Kilda will do for the rest of the year. Most of the team looked lethargic and disinterested. I know Port are a good side but I don't think that completely explains how ordinary the Saints were today.

We know they have the talent to suddenly pick up where they were a few weeks ago. But they are definitely missing Koschitzke and something is up with Gehrig. They could be without Penny for the next week or so if the tribunal is in a bad mood on Tuesday night, and Maguire is some weeks from returning, by reports.
