McPhee will certainly be in contention. I thought Hall was easily too quick for him. Solomon did pretty well, they probably should have started with him, after all he did good jobs on Richardson and Tredrea a few weeks back.

There is also another cause for celebration because those cheats, the Kangaroos, had their season ended tonight by the Bulldogs!

      Chomp on that one Laidley.

      Woof Woof!

Fletcher looks real out of sorts if he's asked to play anywhere further up than the defensive 50. In any case, if Sheedy had moved Fletcher onto Hall, O'Loughlin would have destroyed whoever had to play on him.

Great Team effort from the Bloods - Benny Mathews played a great game early when it needed to be won.

And my old favorite (the chestnut) S.Doyle did OK - had more influence than Bally for once!

Freo or WCE at the 'G' would be my dream - we'll see what happens...

C Bolton actually started in Hird. Hird got plently of touches as Bolton was playing him loosely, then Crouch went onto him about half way through the first to tag him and shut him down a bit.

Hird was then moved shortly thereafter and Bolton went back onto him, playing much tighter second time around.

              Good solid win.

How effective is our forward line - lots of potent power there. Particularly good when we can get it inside and keep it away from the boundary line. Plenty of set shots from good angles, which contributed to our good kicking.

I thought Mathews had a good game tonight, and he, Kirk, J Bolton and Buchanan were good in the third quarter when Essendon were pressing.

Good game by Doyle, although I'd expect that with Essendon's weak ruck division. Still, it was pleasing to see an effective game from him.

Backline was solid - another very good game by Barry on Lloyd and great help from the rest of the team, double teaming him on many occasions.

Although Essendon are hardly a stellar team, hopefully this means we are now peaking at the right time of the year.

Just got home from the game, and thought I'd add my (random) thoughts.

The umpiring was dodgy. I can think of no other word. I don't think it really favoured either side too heavily, but it was very unpredictable. I officially HATE the HTB rule, whatever the @@@@ it is.

Our midfield was blown away in the first quarter, but recovered well, mainly thanks to Kirky (what would we do without him?).

Our forward line is supreme. 7-0 in the second quarter, and they weren't all easy ones. Hall, O'Loughlin, O'Keefe and Davis must be the most potent combination in the league. Absolutely magnificent. Hall shone in his 150th, and is an amazing footballer. An absolute joy to watch, and am very glad that they won this game.

Can't remember much else, except that the crowd number was slightly disappointing, but gee did it sound great when the slow 'Sydney' chant got going.

Also, Leo Barry is the most compellingly frightening footballer to watch, ever, in the whole history of the world.

                  Good win. Very happy

First quarter was a big concern - Essendon could well have put us out of touch early, but didn't and we responded in fantastic fashion in the 2nd.

No stuffing around against the Tigers!!! WIN WIN WIN!

I agree with all of that.
The umpiring was ugly, not necessarily favouring one team or the other, but confusing nonetheless.
Our midfield did start playing after quarter time.
We currently have the best forward line we've had in my lifetime (1977+).

I feel the same way JS. Very euphoric!!!

The last couple of days have been very tough for many of us in the Cheer Squad for many a reason, but despite everything I am completely over the moon with not only the 4 points but the night. A couple of us even thought of giving the Cheer Squad away about the things that have happened to us. I don't care about all that now. We had an awesome win; I went off. And still even have a voice tonight as well!!!!

Was really worried in the 1st quarter. But how good was our 2nd stanza. BBB was great, as was Buchanan I thought. Want to watch a replay of the match to see who else played best well etc etc. Too full of adrenalin to work out much right now.

The crowd was pretty good under the circumstances numerically. And I thought it was quite vociforous at times, with the roars pretty darn loud when we kicked a goal. Of course lead by this mad bloke with a drum and a bottle of Lift as makeshift drumstick.

Will take ages to sleep tonight. My swollen leg, sorry I can't feel it at all right now!!!!!

                        JF

PS:- The TV viewers got a full on view of my back too in the last quarter as well. Less traumatic for the children watching I think.

Great win and a great game by the guys after the first quarter.
Please may they go out there next week and belt the tigers.
We need another win and then we gain a home final - please please team.
                          Love those Swans

31 HOs to doyley! and people want to target hille! they are some stats to dream of!

were we extremely efficient through the middle tonight or something? as all the on-ballers had some pretty low stats...

I'm smiling from ear to ear. I LOVE watching the Swans beat Essendon more than any other side in the comp. And I love watching it happen at Telstra Stadium. And especially after that umpring sham against Essendon at the MCG earlier this year. REVENGE!!!!

The crowd looked great, especially with all those little flags - suprisingly effective. Crowd looked and sounded more than 46,400 but I guess the Olympics may have had an effect. The weather was perfect.

First quarter was dire but the remaining three were awesome. Now I am desperately hoping that we'll be back at Terlstra Stadium again in two weeks. Unfortunately it will depend on more than just beating Richmond.
