he is one of the best, no doubt about it.. but what about fairest?
do you really think he is the best AND "fairest" player?

He hasn't been suspended this year, thus that ranks him in the "fairest" category as well as the best.

The brownlow comes from the midfield. Forget Hall, forget Tredrea. Simon Blacks in great form though.

I agree. No chance for Barry. You must have a "good" relationship with umps to get their votes.

He actually polled very well last year, so that chucks out the idea that umpires won't vote for him. I would say he was in contention until around Round 17-18, where Tredrea and Judd would have shot ahead of the rest.

Bazza has had a good year this year. He may not win the medal, but I expect he will poll at least 14 votes.

I think now's not a good time to bet on the Brownlow because the favourites are known and the returns are poor. If you wanted to bet on Bazza, round 6 or earlier would have been the time to do it.

He will poll well. Big chance to win it.

I don't think the umpires hate him at all - I just think that the perception is that he can look after himself and that it is more likely he would be doing something dodgy rather than his opponent.

Nigel Lappin is my pick this year.

Hall will give it a shot though. I think the umpires' perception of Hall should help him.

It will probably Lappin so the AFL lovechild lions will have a fab four of all brownlow medallists.

Riewoldt is in with a big chance also.

Sadly, I don't think its going to happen. I think his best shot was in 2002 (polled well until he got suspended). Big shoe-in for B&F though.

I don't think Bazza will win the Brownlow, but he is currently at $31 and I think that is exceptional odds at present.

Sportstab have betting for top five in the Brownlow, which I think is more realistic for Bazza at this stage. Last listing Bazza was at $13 to come in the top five.

I think he's a chance as he's just outside the main favs and how often do those named favourites actually win? Not often.

I agree with NMW the perception the Umps have of him is obviously one of his ability to take care of himself, not one of them not liking him. It's a back handed compliment when they don't pay the same type of frees that Lloyd gets. Hence after a tough game he'd be more likely to poll well, even if he hasn't had an abundance of frees. May not be fair for Barry or Sydney, but that's how I see it.
