Meklejohn wont go unless in a trade for another ruckman. We are light on in that department, so cant afford to delist or trade away. Big men take longer to mature, so he can still get better.

There seems to be some expectation that we can trade fringe players (Fosdike, Saddington, etc) for this mythical star midfielder. Stop dreaming. We will need to trade one of our regular players, and the only area where players seem surplus is the forward line. For that reason I think O'keefe may be trade bait.
If we get a good trade and Davis and Schnieder return to form, he may not be missed that much.

The main trade bait we possess are our draft picks. Given the way Roos and the club have come out and announced their recruiting policy, I'm 99% sure that we will be trading away pick #15.

As for O'Keefe we would be stupid to trade him away if he's happy to stay. I see him as the perfect candidate to take Magic's spot once he retires.

the Herald-Sun is speculating that Essendon may break-out the big bucks to get Jude Bolton (who is coming off contract):

        http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,10746663%255E20322,00.html

does anyone have any juice on this? would McVeigh figure in any of this?

IMHO it would be unlikely to happen, but shocking if it does.

Invested too much in Heath not to give him a red hot go now and Powell's a goer along the lines of Bevan, I'd cut others before him!

If they want a speedy midfielder then Jude isn't the player they're after. Somewhat concerned that Jude still hasn't re-signed despite reports saying he was close to a few months ago.

He'd have to almost be a cert to go wouldn't he? That deal has been on the table for a long time. The Swans either do not think he is worth want he wants or they see him a potential 'aggresive' trade. Either way I'm now a bit ****ty he signed my boys' caps because he will be playing against us next year (which means we might get some effective disposals from him finally )

Reading some of these posts has been funny.

When Jude was "On the Couch" he gave the impression he was happy to stay in Sydney and I thought him staying with Sydney was a done deal.

                  My guesses are:

                  Retirement/delisted
                  Warfe (r)
                  Meiklejohn
                  Sundqvist
                  Fixter
                  Thewlis
                  James

                  Trade
                  Fosdike
                  Saddington
                  Nicks
                  Powell

                  Transfer
Nick Davis' KFC account to Josh Willoughby.

                  In
                  Luke Power
No idea but not ones previously mentioned in this post.

Without a contract I don't think it matters how happy he is with Sydney - it is how happy Sydney is with him...

                        Let's get something for nothing!

I personally sincerely doubt that we will get Brad Ottens unless Tezza takes a personal dislike to him, but he is only 24 yo! Would be very happy news.

And we could say to Richmond, 'Hey, we already gave you Stafford for effectively nothing (apart from a debt-relief scheme) in return. What more do you want?'

Incidentally, with 4 new coaches in the AFL, all of whom are no doubt making the same cliched promises about having a long hard look and cleaning out the list, there is an excellent chance that we'll be able to pick up (for nothing more than a spot on the list) one or more established but relatively young players who can do better here than they've done at their first home.

Also worth noting that if the trading club wants to play hardball, and the player being traded (who is out of contract) wants to reciprocate, they go for nothing: Nick Stevens and Jade Rawlings were acquired this way in 2003/4.

Another cute bit of trivia confirming (for the zillionth time) that research, ears to the ground and a fair bit of luck are more important in the draft than high numbers: Cameron Bruce was pick #64 (Melbourne's 6th!) in the 1999 draft. Poor Danny Roach (who didn't have a possession, but did lay a tackle, in his AFL career)was #7.

Agreed - and it wouldn't be a bad swap either - with most swaps where one party comes out at a loss - in that case it would be pretty much an even contest.

Plus Senior McVeigh might be able to help Junior McVeigh continue his climb up with his performances.

The player I'd love to take if he wasn't under contract and would be kind enough to leave Brisbane is Luke Power - he's unbelievable and it's only a matter of years till he joins that Lions Brownlow list - but the chances of him ever leaving there and wanting to come to Sydney are pretty slim.

                            Are you nuts....a fair trade.

McVeigh would be handy but not worth Jude. Jude would be worth McVeigh and at least a top 5 pick.
                            McVeigh is overrated.

P.S. Don't be suprised to see Mcgoo come from the Pies, as the in and under

If Jude goes to Essendon, then there better be a reasonable draft pick coming our way to balance the ledger.

Edit - not top five, though. Let's not get too... ambitious...
