Goodes would make a drastic improvement if played on a wing or RR with Kennelly and Davis on the other wings, and Bolton and Kirk to get the ball out I'm confident we don't need another midfielder in the squad.

That's not enormously different to what we've had over the past couple of years, and I think it's below the standard of the top midfields.

Well no, you can do something about it, like trade.

And Judd is a proven top-class midfielder, as are a number of other players who would be targetted, whereas a number of our midfielders aren't.

yeh but how can we know next year mcveigh wont be a star

being purley technical we cant know judd wont play another good game in his life.

in some ways recruitment and selection is luck.. All the coaching panel can do is work to get who they percieve are the best available and give them the best preparation possible

i agree on the weakest link being the midfield, but surely our style of play is partially responsible for the I50 stat??

I'd argue that our style of play is an attempt to overcome our midfield defficency. Chicken/Egg

Ok so imagine we get this "star midfielder" where would he slot in?

                          Wing:Kennelly Goodes Fosdike
                          Ruckoyle Kirk Bolton

                          Bench + Flanks + pockets
Schneider,Buchanen,McVeigh(x2, both first rounders, Jarrad will be good, give him time),Ablett,Mathews,Crouch,Maxfield,Williams,Nick s,Davis.

That's a long list of players, if you add a "star midfielder" in, it would push back the developement of half that list.

Not if half that list gets traded to get it

To start with I wouldn't have Goodes in the centre, which is where I would put a new midfielder.

The 'development' of Maxfield, Williams and Nicks is hardly going to be halted.

Mathews and Crouch are unlikely to get significantly better in the midfield, so won't be affected.

Davis is good enough that it won't affect him if he gets his act into gear.

                              Fosdike is marginal.

Kennelly should still be able to take a wing, if the coaches so choose to put him into the midfield (which I would like to see).

Kirk and Bolton can still retain their spots.

Schneider, Buchanan, McVeigh and Ablett are still developing and will rotate through the remaining spots.

And which of the above will get traded anyway.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

But they could be "star midfielders" themselves, given time.

                                Or a chance.
