    Flat spot????

Flat spot? Are you kidding? January is my favourite non-footy time of they year. A typical January day? (for me, at least) You get an iced coffee (for it's too hot for the real stuff) at GOSH at Fox studios, where the barista had just-about learned your order (until you decided to change it) and wander over toward the SCG to watch NSW play in the cricket. It's not the NSW of old, but it'll do. On the way, you stop for a moment near to watch our team train, remembering that Footy really does exist. It's plesant enough, under the trees, by the "lake", watching Footy again, but you'd best move on before they think you are a spy or a stalker. So you pay a dollar (or five, if you aren't a student) to sit and watch the cricket. They game isn't so exciting, but you're there, the sun is shining, the parking is free, and the SCG feels like home. Then, to your delight, a couple of the Swans wander in after/before training. And you're always far too cool to say anything, but sit, smirking, realising that in not-very-long you'll be screaming their names and hoping- yet again- that they've got what it takes to win a premiership. You smile because there's something coming, and seeing them makes you realise that it is soon. And this year... this year could be it. January? It's a month of hope.

But right now? Now is the time of year in which there is nothing tangibly football-related. This six-or-so weeks when, on top of there being no games to go to or footy on TV- there is no chance of seeing the boys training from the bus window on the way to Uni, no bumping into Leo Barry when going for a cup of coffee in Randwick- despite the fact he's probably around, it just doesn't seem to happen. Sure, you get a glimpse of the International Rules if you're willing to stay up REALLY late, as I'm sure many will, but Dublin may as well be the moon for the distance you feel from Footy. For six awful weeks, it's like Footy, and the Swans, don't even exist.

Actually, it doesn't matter all that much to me. March will come soon enough. But it is great fodder for a treatise, so I really couldn't resist.

Yep... that sounds like a flat spot...

Lucky I don't rely on football complettely for entertainment...
