I think Wallace's point was that our superstars (with some notable exceptions) since Barrassi took over have generally been recruited ready made and not developed by our club.

A point that is at worst, reasonable, I would suggest.

Barry Hall, Nick Davis, Craig Bolton, Paul Williams, Stuart Maxfield, Andrew Schauble, Jason Ball

Tigers players taken from other clubs: 6

Darren Gaspar, Nathan Brown, Rory Hilton, Greg Stafford, Kane Johnson, Shane Tuck

Doggies players taken from other clubs: 7

Daniel Bandy, Nathan Eagleton, Steven Koops, Ben Harrison, Jade Rawlings, Matthew Robbins, Peter Street.

Now which list would you rather have ?

Also blows Wallace's theory out of the water.
I'm sure Shane Tuck was drafted last year by the Tigers. You also missed a couple of others:
Adam Houlihan was at Geelong before he went to the Tigers.
Bill Nicholls was a Hawk a few years ago.
        Ben Marsh was from Adelaide.
        Simon Fletcher from Carlton.
Luke Weller and Shane Morrison from Brisbane.
        Justin Blumfield from Essendon.

        From the Dogs:
        Simon Garlick - Sydney!
Scott Bassett, Adam Morgan - Port

But of course you would have to also go through players from the last few years who are no long playing to make a reasonable argument.

so what makes a home grown player anyway? nick davis went from NSW to collingwood and back to us - does that make him returning home or poached from Collingwood??
I think the whole locally developed player saga is a croc. Long gone are the days when you made your way up from the under 19's, ressies then seniors. Everyone comes from somewhere else

It is not about 'home grown' at all.

This day and age is about development - players are very rarely ready to play when drafted - so clubs typically put a fair bit of work and effort into them to get them ready for AFL football.

It is all part of the modern game of course, but can you imagine if Heath James played every game next year and then accepted an offer from Essendon?
