In the event that he decides to come to the Swans, what are we able to offer (realistic deals only!!)

To put it in perspective Barry Hall was worth 2 first round draft choices

Obviously our first round draft choice is gone which given how low it is is not a big concern in a supposedly weak draft

Any suggestions??

I hope the club sticks to what it thinks he is worth and doesn't get obsessed with winning him at all costs.

Hall is a more valuable player to us than Ottens would be. Sure, half-decent ruckmen trade at a premium because they are in high demand, but so are key power forwards. Arguably there are even fewer of them going around than ruckmen.

Having said that, the Hall we currently have is not the Hall we acquired 3 years ago. If we were trying to secure him now he would cost us far far more than picks 13 and 17.

For all the hype around Ottens, he hasn't performed that well for the past 3 years. The fact that he was originally a number 2 pick is completely irrelevant IMO. Fosdike was a number 3 pick as well but that doesn't make him as valuable as Judd, for example.

Given there is some competition for him I'd say two mid first round picks, or a first, second round pick and a youngish fringe player. Richmond fans are hungrily eyeing off O'Keefe (as well as picks) and if we really want Ottens we may have to accept that may happen. That's why I hate this time of year.

It will have to be an O'Keefe or someone similiar - someone seen as valuable to the rest of the AFL world.

It will probably take a three way trade so that we can get a lower pick from another club to give to Richmond.

Going to be a difficult trade to get up because it looks like Miller doesn't want us to get any Richmond player.

Dont know why some people are panicking. We are holding the GUN. If Richmond is playing hard ball so be it. As Richmond does not have the cap or willing to pay Ottens anything more than a pittance, if there is no deal by the end of the trading period, Richmond is going to loose Ottens for nothing. Putting Geelong in equation might give Richmond a better position. Nominating two clubs means Ottens is trying to play fair with Richmond to give them some leverage. It would be silly for Richmond to abuse that and cut out that last bridge with Ottens. We have nothing to worry. As long as we offer a fair deal, it should be it. We should not pay over the odd as for the case of Hall when St Kilda did have the cap to fit him.

I think Miller knows the position they are in. That is why he is so outspoken, pretty much like the case of Davis with Collingswood. And we know what was the outcome of that case. Sit tied and enjoy the show.

We obviously have no hope of getting him during the PSD and the Davis situation is totally different. Ottens at his best is an All Australian player.

Richmond are very likely to find a club willing to trade in October. Geelong and Sydney will not be the only clubs after him, I am positive his management would have fielded many other calls during the past few weeks.

Sorry, guys, but I wuldn't trade even my dirty underwear for him. Sydney Swans need good midfielders who wll win the ball in the middle not another BH back-up. We were last in the competition for inside 50 this year and that says a lot.

Firstly, he can play ruck, which we need over the next few years.

Secondly, he can play the big forward, freeing up Hall for more traditional CHF role.

Thirdly, just because we get him doesn't mean we won't also be getting a midfielder (I'll be exceptionally disappointed if we don't).


No idea what he's worth, but as a rough first guess, try Fosdike + 2nd rd pick.

I believe a competitive bid would be something like O'Keefe + Pick 15, and IMO that is it too much.

I would expect Geelong to put a first round pick plus a good player on the table for Ottens, and we'd have to beat that . . . maybe as Liz hinted we'd need to trade elsewhere to get an additional first round pick to sweeten the deal.

O'Keefe + Pick 15 is way, way too much. Fosdike + 2nd round pick is fair, may be I could throw my leftover cheese cake as the sweeter. Miller would surely like that.

I think we could pick up pick 13 from adelaide which they will receive from WCE for stenglein

pick 13 and 15 would be what i would be willing to trade

that would mean richmond would have picks 1, 4, 13, 15 and 20 and the first pick in the PSD. thats an instant rebuild from their perspective...
