    What great talent are we LIKELY to get with pick 31?

    We need Ottens as a ruckman goal square player for many years ahead so yes I think fair trades.
    But if that trade was to eventuate, I'd be surprised if we gave both those first round picks for Ottens.

    It'd be more likely 1st Rd, 2nd Rd, Player.
    But more than likely other clubs involved.

    Giving two first round picks away might be a little much, based on his 'potential'.

      I would be surprised to see Doyle go, he is starting to show wome promise.

      For what it's worth....

      My trades:
      * Saddington, Powell + Pick 31 to Bulldogs = Pick 6
      * Fosdike + Pick 15 to Adelaide = Pick 8

      * Pick 6 and 8 to Richmond = Ottens

      Who knows what will happen!!
      No way is Ottens worth picks 6 and 8. Remember we got Hall for 13 and 16 (or 17?) plus a swap of a third rounder for a fourth rounder. Does anyone think Ottens is likely to be close to as good for us as Hall? I think his true value is similar to what we paid for Hall, given that he is a ruckman and there is competition for him. If another club wants to pay more, good luck to them.

      I highly doubt the other trades would work. If we really want the Dogs' no 6 pick I think it would have to be something like Saddo and Mathews for the no 6 pick and a fringe Dogs player or third round pick. I really rate Mathews - which is why I'm suggesting him, the old quality for quality rule. He would also be a very valuable player for the Dogs.

          Thought about all of that rumour in that article.

          We've gone from being mildly interested in Ottens, to being willing to give up: Davis, Saddo, Doyle and Fosdike + a midfielder for him.

          Holy crap. Four or five top 22 players for one?? Not likely.

          If we do get picks 6 and 8 out of clever trading, I reckon we'll hang on to one.

          Personally I think we can appease the Tigers with a first and second round pick, and maybe a young player if needed. But if we cant, just walk away.

              I don't know why some of you are quite so rude about Davis. He was injured for much of this year. I have also wondered whether he may suffer from bouts of depression. A recent article about him sugested to me that he does. Depression does not equal laziness. So what if he eats KFC now and then - and where'd that come from anyway?

                Nick Davis is famous for being a lazy player, most commentators of the game are concerned he will never reach his potential because of lack of effort.

                Has nothing to do with injuries that a lot of people perceive him as lazy.

                  In the 1997 draft Sydney also had pick 31 that was traded. Sydney got two players - Brent Green (less than 10 games played) & Simon Hawking (0 games played) from Brisbane.

                  Who did Brisbane draft with pick 31?

                  Answer - Simon Black (150 plus games, triple premiership player, Brownlow Medalist, Norm Smith Medalist, twice All Australian, twice Brisbane Best and Fairest).

                  I know which player I would rather had on Sydney's list.

                  There is always talent in the draft if the clubs are astute with their player assessments and draft players to meet their list needs.

                    He had a good pre-season this year and may have had a great year until injury cruelly felled him. Anybody would have been disappointed. give him another good pre-season and more luck with injuries and he could become one of the Swan's most valuable players. he definitely has the potential. Most of the other players don't.

                      I agree. I was first excited about the idea of Ottens coming but I can't believe the club would give away 5 players for two picks for 1 player. What do we use to replace the players? draft picks 71 to 75.

                      Much rather snare one of the Lions spare ruckman.

                      I thought Roos said he didn't want to take a player that wasn't interested in coming to Sydnet. Ottens doesn't want to come to Sydney.

                      Plus we're still short of the "gun" midfielder.

                        I cant believe the interest in this guy they want more than we gave for BAS, It would be great to get him but not at this surpposed cost.

                          Interestingly, Brent Harvey's name is being thrown around as a potential trade by the Roos as part of their bid for Ottens.

                          If we could secure the no 6 pick by trading Eade a couple of his old favourites, how about trading that onto the Roos for Harvey. Would have the added benefit of cutting out the Pies, who have the 7th pick and are reportedly eyeing off Harvey.

                              This is ludacris. All we wanted was a ready made ruckman that could replace Ball when he's finished. Jolly is ready made and is capable to take the front, heck even if we could snare a beau mcdonald it would do us fine.

                              But giving all this up for Ottens is insane. He has not proved anything since 2001, it would be pure stupidity to give up that much.

                              Kerr has been thrown up for trade and he seems a much more logical target in terms of our needs

                              Powell, Pick 31 to Dees
                              Jolly to Swans (Ruckman Problem Solved!)

                              Then we work out something for Kerr..Maybe a 3 way deal with Stenglin

                                What the hell!!!!! We seem to be keen to give away between 3-5 recognised players for one injury prone Ottens who is not too fussed about coming to the Swans probably because his immediate have moved to Melbourne.. I was initally attracted with the idea of picking up Ottens but for a reasonable price. A salary of $500,000 per season and a good slice of our top 22 players seems a hefty price to pay. IMO Ottens is a servicable player who in recent years has played below his capacity due to injuries and an attitude problem .

                                I just hope we do not get done over in our efforts to pick up Ottens
