What happened to the game plan from last week

I know that the sane game plan will not work week in week out but they didn't even try it. Against the Blues the swans ran well off the back half and set up lots of opportunities. Last night when they got in trouble they just tried to bomb the ball long often straight to the opposition, I'm looking at you Ball. And poor Bazza, he is not the greatest forward running around at the moment but put the ball out in front of him and he will kick a bag, kick it too him in a one on one wrestle and the defender will get the better of him.

I hope Ball will get back to his old form, can not knock him for lack of passion, loved the gritted teeth before each centre start

I think Ball is concentrating on just playing a full game and not injuring himself!!

We've seen how damaging he can be when fully fit and firing - with Doyle and Mott unavailable, this becomes more important than ever. Goodes can thrash opposition ruckmen all over the ground, but we are a step behind automatically at the centre bounce if he is our best option.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

i tend too highly disagree, fixter is more of a key to our defense than what mathews is

however, warfe always manages to give him the ball when he is under a lot of pressure, maybe its warfe that makes him look so bad

Just a bit of perspective here - before our game against Carlton, I was expecting performances like last night's to occur quite often, but silly me kind of lost sight of that thinking that we were potentially better than we actually are after the Calrton game. Last night was a reality check for me, to basically say 'Expect performances like Freo, hope for performances like Carlton'. We have seen in the first 2 games potentially how good we can look, but also how bad.

You must be above this height to ride this rollercoaster!

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

Looks like the trip had some affect on their stamina. looked fatigued before half time and don't forget they wee playing on the biggest ground in the comp.

Only got beaten by 26 points and should have been 4 goals in ront at half time but for wasted opportunities and poor disposal and disposal selection.

Fosdike = For whatever reason his kicking to the opposition was superb, and after such a top performance last week. had 18 kicks though so at least got the pill.
Kennelly = Noticed that some said he played a good game. Disagree, have a look at his disposal. At least 5 times in the first half he stuffed up. Did his little gaelic chip into the player coming towards him, handballed wildly under no pressure, keeps trying the old"one/two" handballing to a player under pressure then trying to get it back (always fails). Took 3 bounces at that vital stage in the last quarter but for some reason looked for the one/two handballed to 2 players well covered and Fosdike (I think) got pinged for "ball". Should have kicked for goal. How long do we put up with his fancy lairising.
Barry = Not up to it. Got carved up and still totally unaccountable. Peeled off in last quarter and ran back instead of attacking the footy and trying to gain possession. Again this was at the critical time.
Crouch = 2 weeks in a row now he has taken "short steps" in ahead on 50/50 ball contest. Symptomatic of the team peformance. Bodies on the line was non existent.
Warfe = It's all been said before. Will finish his career in the twos.
Davis = Put him in the midfield and make him work when he is fit.
O'Keefe = Not much ground time but when will he chase. Not prepared to put an influence on the game.

Until these players are replaced or correct these weekly problems there will always be too much pressure on the real footballers at the club.

Hard ball gets is what we need.

Donners can't agree on the Fixter/ Mathews comparison. Put Fixter on Farmer, Hazelby, Medhurst and perhaps even Bell and the result may have been different. Mathews gets possessions and granted has improved, but he is better as the loose player in defence rather than manning up.

I agree with you on this, his (and others) turnovers really hurt us. Plus he's too easily brushed aside and goes for the ball when he should just wrap the guy up in a tackle. That said he's still learning the game and they try to match him up with inexperienced/first year players. But he's a worry defensively.

As for other players J Bolton needs to realise, if he wants to be a midfielder, to get the ball on his boot quicker, and to kick 40/50 metres down field and 5 feet not along the ground.

M Nicks needs to realise that B Hall is the key forward and not to get in his way. Personally, I'd put Nicks back in the backline (replace Warfe on smallls), even though he kicked two goals last night he's a liability up forward, hopefully Micky O (or Ryan O) will be up forward next week.

Yes, i have too say C Bolton is a very good pick up and has done quite well the last 2 weeks, i dont know what we'd do without him!
Also I agree with HH that Nicks should be put back into dfence to replace Warfe.
I cant see Warfe playing in the seniors anytime soon, at least i hope not

tells you something when our best player ,Craig Bolton, can't get a gig with the Lions. This guy has the basic skills that our team never seem to have been taught under Eade. When Craig gets the ball ,i have a sense of relief because I AM CONFIDENT that his disposal will be purposefull.
Now his 'bro.' Jude will never ever give me that feeling although, to be fair, last night he actually made an effort to USE the ball rather than 'falling a sleep' on the little pill.....and he succeeded twice to get it to a good guy. Other than that, he had a crap game.I wish some would get off Mathews as he is playing a good back line roll (compared with Barry and Warfe and the rest of the backs bar CB) and he does have a long accurate kick that was mainly effective.Sorry , i thought Nicks was not as good as his possessions indicate....marking poor and kickiing not good enough for his experience.
Never thought i'd come to think that Seymour would be a welcome return because of his toughness , experience and good footy brain...but only if fully fit and NOT in the forwards (he ain't very skilled you know)

good point about bolton's skills and his use of the ball, he seems SO composed and confident unlike our boys... maybe we should recruit more brissy players. maybe michael and aker

The commentators said a couple of times that Jude Bolton was being sacrificed by Roos. I took this to mean that he was assigned on opposition off the play, but of course this wasn't shown on the telecast. Does anyone who was there have any comments to expand this?

Oh no, does that mean that Roos didn't cut out his heart and feed it to the vultures?

Damn, I guess the commentators must have been referring to the fact that Jude played as a tagger until his injury
