      Fosdike and...?

Doyle? Too many ruckmen at Port
O'Loughlin? Too injury prone to have any trade value.
      Crouch? We won't trade him.
      Willoughby & Schmidt? Pointless
      James? See MOL
      Nicks? Too old.

Will be hard to lever ourselves up.

Fossie for pick 19 would be a very nice deal... reckon there's any chance of that?

Doubt it, i think we'd need to throw in a sweetner ala Thewlis or Sundqvist and also pay some of that fat arse contract of his

Just remember that Craig Bolton didn't set the trading news alight......granted we didn't lose a first round draft pick.....

Just spoke to the CEO of our company, who is a mad Demons supporter, and he is gutted that they've lost Jolly - even for pick #15. Rates him very highly, and thinks only Jeff White and lack of game time has been holding him back.

              YAY for us!!!

I know that the AFL web site has made the odd mistake or two but it says there that Jolly was exchanged for pick 29. Is this wrong?

Gee wizz. A 23 y.o. who is second to Jeff White is not good enough. Blimey, you'd reckon we'd have to get White himself forpick 63 to make some people happy.

I'm happy about it, if only because it means we actually traded!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I think we all agree that we may have paid a little over the odds for Jolly, but there are a number of factors we need to consider here:

                        - Jolly was still contracted to Melbourne so if they didn't get the deal they wanted they simply could have kept him for another season

                        - A number of teams are after ruckman so we were a buyer in a sellers market

                        - Even with Ball playing on this season we were desparate for another ruckman given that Ball and Doyle are injury prone, we want to protect Goodes, and Eriksson is not ready

                        - Draft experts are saying that the top 6 are standouts then the rest are very even after that. With at least 2 stand out F/S picks, and 3 teams qualifying for extra picks, giving away our pick 15 may not be as bad as would normally be the case

                        - Normally with these sort of deals where a first rounder is traded for a player, the other team will usually throw back a 3rd rounder on top of the player to even up the deal. I think we all agree that Swans don't have many obvious candidates for delisting and as such we don't have room on our list for an extra draft pick that may have been offered to even up the deal (Speculation only)

                        - Other teams also seem to be paying over the odds for players this year which would further strengthen the argument regarding the quality/eveness of this years draft

It will be interesting to see how this trade compares to others come Friday afternoon when the trade frenzy if over

If reports are true that Richmond have Simmonds for a 2nd rnd pick.

We have paid a very high price for an unproven player, not upset about getting a back-up ruckman - but for a 1st rnd pick Jaysus you only get 10 of them given to you every decade

Difference being that Richmond have no 1 pick in the pre-season draft and taken him from the dockers for nothing

Might be so but the truth of the matter is that we pay way over the odd for Jolly. Would replacing Ball with Jolly makes much positive difference to our team? My answer is NO. It might help stopping the slide with the declining influence of Ball, but it is not a progressive step for the team.

Yes and every one of them has to be used in the year they are given - it's not like we can bank them and save up for a year when there are more highly regarded trades/drafts on offer.

The damn thing has to be used up. Roos and co already believe we have enough young talent on the books. Clearly they believe that the best use of this currency is to grab a young player who can hit the ground running in 2005. In this context, and IMHO it's almost irrelevant who this person is and whether or not under close scrutiny they are 'worth' a first round pick.
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.
