The way things are developing, in a few years time the rookie list will be THE main way that clubs pick up young players, and the National draft will be used more and more for recycled players - Roos and the brainstrust at Sydney are ahead of their time

LOL - the way reports keep flooding in on our rookies, we'll be promoting half a dozen next year, in addition to our draft picks.... would be good for the senior-list players to have some pressure on them for their spots.Visit my eBay store -

I am surprised, though, that he's had some good constructive, and somewhat positive, comments in the last couple of weeks. Good work Fhead.Visit my eBay store -

I'll add my vote of congrats to the club on a seemingly excellent job done at the rookie draft.
Rapt to see Heath Grundy coming to Sydney. (I'd be more rapt if the reserves would release him to play the odd crucial game for Norwood, but you can't have everything.) Continues a growing tradition of Norwood players here, joining Crouch and Fossie.
From what I've read, I think that Guy Campbell and Luke Vogels are both quite likely to be good pick-ups.
At the moment, everyone involved in draftsville appears obsessed with finding the latest genius 16 year old, and won't look sideways at anyone who is a year above minimum draft age. This leaves on the scrapheap 20-22 year olds who haven't yet been drafted for whatever reason, regardless of the quality of footy they've been playing since they turned 18. Of course this is absurd. We can take (and have taken) advantage of the relative lack of interest in this demographic.
I believe that over the longer term, the tactic of rookie-listing players who have proved they have the size and motivation to play good footy week-in, week-out against grown-ups, is likely to reap more rewards, as opposed to just selecting players on 'potential' that may never be realised.
Heath #2 is also a good pickup on this basis- unlike many draftees about whom it's written 'has played senior footy' when they've played off the bench in about 2 matches, he's played a full season in the first 18 for Norwood, and from all accounts acquitted himself well.Comment

I now beleive we have (or will have by the end of 2005) all positions coverd.
Our depth in every position is better than any time in the last 10 years and so the next 4 years is the best shot at glory the Swans have ever known.
Go Swans, Go Roos. Go RWO !!!!Comment

That is amazing that post.
Though a bit hopefull, most rookies don't do much, though these seem like some damned good ones.Comment
