R.Harvey isn't W.Carey's bootlaces, in fact there are NO players who are even close to WanCarey. The bloke was the best player in the last 20 years, regardless of people's opinion's on his off field actions, deeds and misdemeanours....
Just my opinion. I don't rate Carey as much as you do, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a great player. Harvey has been one of the most underrated players of all time. Over 300 games and two Brownlow's speak volumes of his abilty.

This threads been hijacked by a Wayne Carey debate when the original question was about the top 5 Sydney players.

      Since my time as a Swan's supporter (1987 +) I would nominate:
      1. Paul Kelly
      2. Tony Lockett
      3. Greg Williams
      4. Gerard Healey
      (all Brownlow winners too)
      5. Barry Hall

In the early 90's when North would murder us, Bayes used to beat Carey everytime. I certainly don't think he was anywhere near the difference in the '96 GF, and he certainly wasn't CLEARLY the best footballer of the last 20 years. He played in the best side in the business with great players around him. I'd take Lockett and Ablett ahead of him everytime. They had to perform in some very ordinary sides at different times, with disgraceful midfields delivering the ball to them, particularly Lockett.

Cressakel, you have just been brainwashed by Carey crap.

My top 5 Swans players of all time:

          1. Bobby Skilton
          2. Laurie Nash.
          3. Tony Lockett
          4. Greg Williams
          5. Bob Pratt

Apologies to Bedford, Cleary, Kelly, Healy, Rantall, Roos, Goldsmith, Matthews.

In my time, I would have:

          1. Lockett
          2. G Williams
          3. Kelly
          4. Healy
          5. Roos

A few others in the top echelon include Rantall, Browning, Cresswell, Round, Evans, Bayes, Carter, Dunkley, Murphy, T Morwood, Wright, D Carroll, P Williams, Hall.

And always hits a target NO MORE than 25-30 metres away....

Saints fans are still waiting on the 55 metre drop punt or, heaven forbid, the 60 metre torpedo...

Harvey was/is a fantastic player, although " two Brownlow's speak volumes of his abilty " doesn't really, as Libba, Couch, Woewodin, B.Hardie etc etc are not worthy Brownlow medallists.

I cannot recall Mark Bayes ever playing on Wayne Carey. If he did, I'm sure Carey would have beaten Bayes, as one had a huge heart and loved the hard ball along with his extraordinary ability, whereas the other was known more for his beautiful long left foot kicking....

North were an average side with Carey out, he made North the " best side in the business ".

How could I forget Bayes' front teeth being knocked out in his earlier days playing a Reserves game at The Lake Oval on a Sunday and also that dog Craig Kelly ripping Bayes' shoulder from the socket at Vic Park in front of the Feral Toothless Members....

Bayes beating Kernahan on a regular basis also springs from this selective mind....

                              5. Roos

A few others in the top echelon include Rantall, Browning, Cresswell, Round, Evans, Bayes, Carter, Dunkley, Murphy, T Morwood, Wright, D Carroll, P Williams, Hall. [/B]
Yikes NMW, you and I have picked an almost identical 5! I was very undecided about my number 5 and I admit overlooking Roos completely. I went for Hall because I think he'll be there by the end of his career. Capper (seriously), Dunkley, Cresswell, Bayes, Toohey, Carter, Goodes and Schwass were others I considered.
